Enrolled in a singing Level 2 class and had a very negative experience with the tutor. He made comments that made me feel uncomfortable and I would not recommend the class in general. However, the City Academy support team were very responsive, understanding, and helpful in resolving the situation — so thanks to them.
I did the 5 Day Screen Acting Intensive Course. I absolutely loved it. Taught me so much in such a short period of time. Tutors are so nice and supportive. Q&A with Casting Director helped me really get an insight into the industry. Definitely recommend! Also staff is lovely (reception, service team…).
Did the beginners acting course with David. It was fantastic. All the lessons were well planned out but also felt spontaneous and David adapted to what we all wanted to do. He was really supportive and knowledgeable, giving good constructive feedback. I enjoyed every lesson on the course and met some lovely people and feel a lot more confident performing!
I recently attended a 7 week beginners diva dance class with City Academy. Our wonderful tutor Pia made the class so enjoyable and a safe space to push yourself, and the friendly and inclusive atmosphere within the class meant everyone’s voice was heard. Pia’s vast experience in the dancing world shone through and you really feel that you are learning from the best - it is the perfect combination of a fun, relaxed environment with a professional feel where you can learn real skill and technique. The class was challenging but everyone was able to keep up, especially as Pia encourages you to ask to go over certain bits again, keeps an eye out for anyone struggling, and adapts to move at the group’s pace. People of all ages, backgrounds and fitness/ability levels had signed up for the class, which made for a really supportive atmosphere. You are encouraged to find your own style and push your creativity - if you miss a move, it’s fine as long as you bring the diva! We all agreed that our dance style and fitness levels improved immensely over the 7 weeks, but most noticeably for me, my confidence to express myself through dance and perform in front of others increased hugely, all thanks to Pia and my class mates. At the start of the 7 weeks I felt nervous to break into smaller groups and perform, but over the weeks I really valued this opportunity and the support from the group, and loved watching everyone’s growth! Our class was held at Sadler’s Wells dance theatre, which further immerses you into the world and history of dance - this made the experience even more special. Our group formed great relationships and after the last session we all excitedly discussed which City Academy course to take on next. From a logistics perspective, the classes were well organised, ran to time and easy to locate. I was sent a detailed information pack after signing up so I knew exactly where to go, what to bring and what to expect from the course. I can’t thank Pia and City Academy enough for building my confidence to release my inner diva! THANK YOU!
I attended the beginners painting course and had a wonderful time. The course tutors were brilliant, it was really fun and I’m excited to book another course soon. Highly recommend :)
Took a watercolour class with Sheila in person downtown. It was really fun and informative. I'm no expert but am pleased with the new skills I gained! 100% recommend.
I joined the Creative Writing Course. It was so much fun and had great atmosphere. The tutor Niki was really encouraging and supportive. She gave a lot of hints and feedback. I learned a lot from her and the other participants. Will definitely try other City Courses! PS: Not even a native English Speaker
I wanted to understand watercolors better. A good beginning ground, what to use, how to use, what to avoid, try different techniques… but nothing happened. It was huge disappointment for money I paid. It was like lessons for five years old children. Let’s play and be nice. Find your brush and paint and pain what you like. Three days. Terrible. Waste of money and time if you have ever tried Watercolors. Tutor was sweet but definitely without proper experience in education of adults. Very silent. Not helpful. I didn’t pay for killing time but for new knowledge or skill. Not happening. Sad.
Not usually one to leave reviews but I've taken 3 sets of classes with City Academy (Absolute Beginners Dance, Street Dance Beginners and Contemporary Beginners) and they have been wonderful experiences. They really cater to beginners and each teacher I have had has created an environment where you feel like you can learn and make mistakes without judgement. Also appreciate that they bring in cover teachers when a teacher isn't available or give a make up class if a class does have to be cancelled.
So after having done some acting, I wanted to upskill so booked onto the 5-Day Foundation Acting course. Before I started the course I was worried the course might be too basic but oh how I was wrong!! This is probably the best course I've ever done, in any field. Honestly, this course was incredible!! Literally 100%!! I cannot stress this enough. The tuition was so strong including the tutor that stepped in that you developed so quickly and the info felt invaluable. The teachers were so passionate and actually pushed you to understand and develop. I learned things I didn't even know I needed to learn, now they're invaluable skills and I'm desparately searching for a way to learn more! Genuinely an unforgettable experience and I gingerly would add, possibly even, "the perfect course." I say that because I just can't fathom how you could add anything else. Such a rewarding experience. Thanks City Academy.
