   One of the waitresses was very miserable - a stark comparison to a visit earlier in the month when the lady then was extremely cheerful and pleasant. One of the ones serving on Sunday evening seemed most put out to actually have customers! But the food and atmosphere as always was good.

   We visited for Sunday roast and, while the presentation was impressive, the food itself didn’t quite live up to expectations. The plates looked generous, but the meat portions were rather small — the pork in particular was thin, and my husband had to ask for more. To their credit, the staff brought extra pork promptly and didn’t charge for it, which we really appreciated. The chicken portion was more reasonable, especially for my 11-year-old. The vegan wellington, however, was so thin it almost blended into the few vegetables on the plate. The Yorkshire pudding was large and lovely, covering most of the plate, and the gravy was plentiful — though a bit too salty for our taste. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and happy to bring more gravy when asked. The part of the restaurant we were in was pleasant, with high ceilings and a bright, open feel, fairly plain with little decoration. Overall, a mixed experience: friendly staff and attractive presentation, but the food could use a bit more substance to match the generous appearance.

   The Sunday Roast was our first and we loved it! The service was friendly and attentive. The mix of flavors was outstanding - braised cabbage, potatoes and roast beef all surpassed expectations. The restaurant felt homey and comfortable.

   Wonderful experience for a roast dinner. We came to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. We were served by Elizabeth (that was the name on our receipt!) and she was warm and witty. The roasts were excellent, extremely flavourful meats and veg, delicious gravy and wonderfully crisp Yorkshire pudns. As the meat was "real" I would have preferred sharper knives (maybe steak knives?) to cut with so we could easily slice through the sinew and fat which is normal in proper meat. I didn't mind eating it although I know some people might be fussy about it, but it was just such a task to cut through with the cutlery on the tables. Portions were generous, especially the pork and chicken. Drinks were lovely, great to see non-alcoholic cocktails and unusual cocktails. Puddings were very good though not many of us could manage one! It was a shame the birthday girl didn't get a candle in her pudding which I had requested when booking, but otherwise it was a really great celebration.

   Lovely pub lunch on Saturday afternoon - a very pleasant, tidy, cosy & well renovated pub. I ordered the spiced veggie & bean burger - it was totally delish! Hubby ordered cajun chicken burger & was also very happy about his choice!

   Great experience. Warm and fast service. Great vegan food; I had the Thai sweetcorn fritters from the Bar Bites section, and the tofish and chips for main. Thanks for making my dad's birthday enjoyable and memorable.
