   After the shock of opening the letter from the OPG many months ago, we found David and Dianne Steene of Steene Law. They said there were experts, and, in our case, David assured us we would win after the very first phone call. Many twists and turns later, we achieved the right outcome in no small measure to their belief in us and their perseverance. David and Dianne are experts in every nook and cranny of this area of the law, so I would suggest to any Attorney under investigation by the Office of the Public Guardian that the first thing to do is give David and Dianne a call.

   From suicidal to champagne! Last November, I had a letter from the OPG, which left me devastated after looking after my Father for nearly 20 years since my mum died. I was being investigated due to my Father being funded by the local authority. I employed the local solicitor to help complete the form, and I heard nothing from them for over seven months and I thought it was sorted until I got another letter in August asking further questions. As I had not been impressed by my Local solicitor contacted David and Diane, who took over my case and brought it to an end by contacting the OPG and sorting it out for me. I could not recommend them enough. Please do not spend thousands as I did on local solicitors who have no idea, and in my case, made a humongous error in their advice regarding filling in my form, which left me wide open. This is a specialised field, and you need experts like David and Diane. Contact them as soon as you get the letter, as I wished I had, I would not hesitate to call them again if I have any further correspondence from the local authority or the OPG. Last Christmas was ruined with this hanging over me, and it would have been the same this year; however, I am now able to celebrate with Champagne, knowing this is resolved.    We contacted Steene Law in regards to a family care matter having seen the many positive reviews which, I can confirm based on our experience, are fully justified. Whilst we didn't have the need for David's services to solve an immediate issue, he was able to offer us valuable insight into what we may be entitled to in terms of care, as well as how we might go about getting it.    David helped us to fight a long battle with a council who were wrongly claiming deliberate deprivation with regard to my mother’s care home fees. David has complete knowledge of the law surrounding such cases and gave sound advice throughout. He knew many of the people who we came to deal with from similar cases, including the council’s accounts team and their own lawyer. He was able to predict next moves and to deal with various issues with a phone call. He was also able to keep me updated on the decisions being made in similar cases across the country, updating our strategy as required. This could have been extremely stressful but David’s calming tone and confidence and his very solid understanding of the law kept the engagements with the council factual and on track, and meant that I felt protected. I strongly recommend David for complex care home fee cases. He will be honest about the legal position of the case. If you follow his advice you will have your best chance of achieving the right result.

   My father and I were subject to an OPG investigation that came out of the blue, a very unsettling and worrying time after receiving the 16 odd page letter from them. A quick google search and I found David at Steene Law, I jumped straight on the phone and almost immediately felt like I was in good hands. His calming tone, reassurance and professional help throughout the whole investigation was nothing short of perfection. His “I’ve got this” mantra really showed he cares, always on the end of the phone or an email if you need him. His knowledge of this area brought the investigation to a swift and successful conclusion for us as a family. I honestly couldn’t recommend David and Dianne highly enough. He really does have a vast knowledge of this area of the law and I can’t quite put my finger on exactly how he made me feel, but needless to say I knew I was in good hands. Anybody that thinks they know more or better than David I guarantee you don’t !! Let him take the reins and follow his lead.    If someone close to you lives in a park (mobile) home and needs to move into a care home or extra-care accommodation, you need to know that your local council CANNOT include the value of their property when assessing their care costs, because a mobile home is considered chattel. This is something David brought to my attention and, as a result, saved our family thousands of pounds. My parents' property will now be inherited, in full, by their children, just as they wished. David has a wealth of experience in this field, which he initially put at our disposal - for free - during a long telephone conversation where he explained the legal position relating to the above. Since then, for a modest fee, he put together a report which, if necessary, we could put before our local council to support our case. As it happened, our local council capitulated pretty quickly, but David is there to fight for the rights of those whose councils need a little more persuasion! David is a solicitor with a heart - he truly cares about the plight of the elderly and is determined to champion them in situations such as this. I found him courteous, extremely knowledgeable and always available if we needed to contact him to clarify anything. I would not hesitate to recommend David (and his wife) to anyone seeking advice on matters relating to the legal/financial rights of anyone who finds themselves at that time of life where their circumstances dramatically change. I am so grateful for his help, without which my parents' home would have been sold and they would be fully funding their own care for the rest of their lives. Thank you, David!

   I met David several years ago and it was immediately apparent that he together with Dianne were experts in all matters to do with mental capacity and Court of Protection. In addition to understanding the rules, they were easy to deal with and there was never an occasion when either David or Dianne would not return a call and they would willingly answer any question. Most recently, we had a matter that went all the way to a hearing being scheduled at the Court of Protection. I think the words of the judge sum up everything about Steene Law. He said: “thank you for the excellently prepared bundle, case summary, skeleton argument and witness statements.  I have had a chance to read the hearing bundle and I am willing to make the requested order without the need for tomorrow’s hearing”. David and Dianne worked hard to make sure that I got everything I had applied for to the Court of Protection, I am told it is very unusual for a judge to write in the words he did. I cannot recommend Steene Law enough
