I had an excellent appointment with Paul. I've never had a good curly haircut, but that changed today! Paul listened to me, offered helpful advice, and gave me exactly what I wanted. I'm very happy with Material and intend to return.
Friendly and skilled hairdressers who not only have the experience but also the imagination. They can be busy, but I never felt that they were rushing to accept more customers in or felt under pressure to purchase additional products. I had excellent experience with both Paul and George; difficult to choose who to visit as both are equally good. They are always good at giving suggestions, but follow customers' wishes. A drink is always offered and the salon never feels hectic, which sometimes happens in other salons. Just had another haircut by James, a very skilled and friendly hairdresser. I enjoyed every minute of it and had a really interesting chat. Would recommend his services to everyone.
Have been going to Material for about 10 years now, and have always been pleased with the outcome! Paul and all the team have always been professional and skilled and friendly. Well worth the journey from Bristol every time!
Lovely experience at Material today. The salon has a relaxed, inviting atmosphere and having a very small team, the service provided seemed very personal, I didn’t feel like I was being rushed through. Paul took time to listen to my concerns and the result was a beautiful haircut which I can easily style at home. Plus a lovely head massage from Amelie! Highly recommended.
I have visited material a number of times and I cannot thank the team enough. Amelie was so lovely and friendly when washing my hair and Paul was so helpful in explaining what was helpful for my hair. My first experience was just a simple wash and straight blow dry and was simply amazing my hair felt so clean and smooth. The atmosphere in the salon was calm and relaxing I would definitely recommend. My second time visiting the salon I came in for a layered cut and cleaning up the ends of my hair. Amelie and Paul’s consultation was really helpful in knowing what was best for my hair and figuring out the lengths of my layers. This lead to a great hair wash from Amelie with a head massage and then started to prep my hair to cut it. Amelie was so precise and careful when cutting my hair and made sure my hair was the lengths I wanted multiple times , which I really appreciate. She then finished my hair off with a perfect blow dry and I left very happy with my hair. I will 100% be returning again, I couldn’t be happier with my new hair!
The loveliest hair salon I’ve ever been to. Everyone was so kind and friendly. Sarah cut my hair exactly how I wanted it - I have very thick and curly hair (2c/3a), but she tensioned straightened it all and so perfectly, and refused to let me feel guilty for the extra time it took! Thank you to everyone at Material!

Personable, experienced stylist (Beth) that created, with her supportive team, an attentive, professional atmosphere/experience during consultation and throughout the CBD. Felt comfortable and well looked after during the appointment, with no impression that I had to be rushed despite being the last client at 18:15. Good knowledge of sustainably conscious and compassionate products, that were tied into an ambient studio with positive lighting and a well structured layout. Recommend positively to those (like me) with Afro hair wanting a quality cut and reshape without needing to travel to Bristol. *Edit* Plus Izzy too! She did a fantastic initial wash to begin with, as well as an accompanying head massage too!
First time visiting Material, Beth did a great job with my hair. She understood exactly what look I was after, talked me through all the products and how to style my hair. All the staff were amazing and attentive, great service overall. Will be back for sure!
I have recently moved back to the area and needed to find a new hairdresser, through personal recommendation from a friend, I was introduced to Paul and Abi and have had an amazing experience from the first appointment and each time since! I’m incredibly happy with my colour, cut and advice and can not thank them enough for being so responsive through Covid - a great team and lovely atmosphere!
