Frequently popped in for a few items as I live locally but now shop at Co-op or Waitrose. I've frequently been left waiting at self-service checkout with no staff manning the tills or paying attention when age confirmation is required. When nearby staff stacking shelves are asked politely for support, they are often rude and have a negative attitude to 'being disturbed.' Fresh produce, particularly bread, is often several days out of date with no reduction, suggesting that stock is not managed well. Despite needing a Nectar card for reduced prices on some items, Nectar offers cannot be redeemed in store, as I was rudely informed by a staff member that "I should go to Sainsburys' if I want these offers. Don't come to Sainsburys Local". Don't worry, I no longer shop here.

Poor selection of fresh food. Scanner couldn't scan my Nectar card on my phone.

Often closes early when it says open until 11pm. Really frustrating. Closed at 22:32 on a Saturday night - does it very often at the moment. Staff just blank you and won’t let you in. Poor for a local supermarket.

Absolutely disgusting smell from the security guard as I walked in he obviously hadn't washed for months. The store was dirty and the staff were rude. Clearly the store is poorly managed.

Closes at 11pm? Nonsense… they won’t let you in the store to buy one thing at 10:47pm. I would have been out by 10:50pm. Go to Tesco or Co-Op. Better service and cheaper. The only thumb this store has going for it is location but I will be walking the extra 5 mins now

Quick enough to get counter service, but the way out of the store was not so good, the students were in a muddle with the self service.

At approximately 1:30pm - 2pm Saturday 17 April I visited Sainbury local 2-4 Gloucester Rd, Bishopston, Bristol BS7 8AE. After shopping I queued, I went to a self service but found it out of action, I waited for another customer to leave a working self service but was then told by a male till operator (dark complexion, nearest to the window) I had to rejoin the queue and despite me saying I had already been in the queue he still insisted I go back to the queue. I didn't want to embarrass him in front of other people so I went back to the queue. I was served by another male till operator who was absolutely fine, the problem till operator was next to him on his right hand side. I told the problem operator that I had already queued and this is the second time I had to queue. Rather than listening any further, he instantly raised his voice and 'threatened' to call the manager several times. I said I was happy to speak to the manager. He backed down - unnecessary bluff. I explained to him what the problem was with the self service machine and his reaction was 'we're all human, we make all mistakes'. I was tempted to say, 'we're all human and we all strive to improve', but did not as I doubted he would have appreciated it. He made a simple justification for his actions but no apology. I don't want justifications for his actions, I want him to realise that speaking to the customer in the first place would have enabled Sainsbury to either fix the self service machine or make it clear that it was out of action, avoiding frustration and the possibility of having to rejoin the queue! So what was the end result? An excitable employee, who does not listen to the customer to find out what the issue is, refuses to listen to anything they have to say and insist they go back to the queue! It does not encourage me to visit the store again but if I do, I will avoid this man.

I don't know why so many people complain about staff or the shop, when the exact people are very rude and disrespectful and also racist. The customers are not always right and the staff don't have to take the abuse . But we talk about Gloucester road after all , people don't have much respect for others ....
