I have been a member of this club since it opened (which i believe was more than 20yrs ago) and now understand that the DL brand does not respect customer loyalty at all. The recent 'upgrade' of the club has been used to push out longstanding members on 'cheaper' memberships. Presumably they seek to replace us with new members who will pay the extortionate 'spa' memberships rate and potentially spend hours at the club and spend in the cafe. The reason this is clear is as follows; 1. General poolside spa facilities removed. 2. Fitness studio dramatically reduced in size with insufficient air conditioning and much smaller class sizes. The set up is now cramped and claustrophobic and it is difficult to book classes especially when the app is playing up which is frequent. 3. Many more 'holistic' classes put on the timetable. Often not full and in a much bigger studio. 4. Reduction of CV equipment in the gym and little chance of getting on the new equipment. It is clear that there is no encouragement now to just come to the gym to stay fit and healthy. The same issues still exist of insufficient parking and badly behaved children running around the changing rooms and clubroom making it feel very far removed from a relaxing 'spa' environment. On the plus side, the outdoor pool is still in situ, albeit that it cannot be used in the summer holidays due to the above issues. I could continue but would just suggest any prospective joiners scope out all their options carefully. Oh and still waiting 3 weeks on for 'member services' to respond to a query on my membership.

Considering this is a £200+ per month membership, only the spa and gym facilities might justify the cost. The entrance, café, workspaces, pool and general communal areas are no better than a standard leisure centre—there is nothing remotely premium about them. The placement of the children’s area directly next to the café completely destroys any sense of luxury. Rather than feeling exclusive or refined, the space feels more like a council-funded day centre than a high-end club. To make matters worse, the sales team are extremely aggressive. There is little respect for a clear lack of interest, with persistent pressure to commit to an overpriced membership. It’s off-putting and unprofessional. For a potential member paying £1,200+ per year, it’s irrelevant whether certain facilities I wouldn’t personally use are acceptable. At this price point, everything should be exceptional. From start to finish, this was a poor experience. For the money being charged, the entire offering needs to be 10/10. At present, it isn’t.

£209 per person per month for Platinum membership is frankly outrageous, especially given what you actually get at David Lloyd Westbury. Despite paying for Platinum (which supposedly includes spa access), if you’re Platinum at another branch, don’t expect to use the spa here. Guests aren’t allowed in the spa either. The only way around this is to either: Be on a 2025 Platinum contract (penalising long-standing, loyal members), or Transfer your membership to Westbury and pay an extra £40 per month — and even then, no spa guests allowed. So what’s the point of having membership tiers at all if there are unspoken sub-tiers that aren’t communicated upfront? The lack of transparency and clear communication is unacceptable for a premium-priced gym. And let’s talk about standards. For £209 a month, I’d expect basic hygiene to be a given. The female toilets still smell like a sewage works, and I didn’t see staff actively cleaning gym equipment during visits. This is a company that reportedly made £32 million in profit in 2024, likely more in 2025 — yet members are paying more for less, while facilities fall short. How about sticking to the advertised tier system, maintaining clean facilities, and being honest with members? Adios, David Lloyd. We will no longer be members.

I had been a happy member of this club for 15 years until the recent upgrade where David Lloyd spent £5m on a refurbishment and passed the costs directly to their customers. Where previously we had access to poolside facilities such as steam and sauna , those have ( since the £5m refit ) become unavailable on normal memberships . I would now need to pay almost £100 more to have that access. It’s blatant sharp practise and has massively cheesed off a large amount of that clubs old and loyal client base .. really disappointing with the total lack of loyalty from DL . They are extremely complacent as they have a monopoly on luxury gyms.

Communication with this club is absolutely impossible. We have been charged £500 a month for the last 2 months for personal training, which we have been attempting to cancel for months! We have called, we have emailed, we have used the chat function on the app, we have booked a call back. Has the issue been resolved? No. No one gets back to us, we keep getting told it’s being dealt with, yet next month another £500 is most likely going to come out. Do not bother with the expense of this gym. The customer service is brilliant when they want you to join up. After that, they just don’t care. They just want your money.

My Son, had a really great time at the No1 Football Academy Holiday Camp. He always looks forward to it. The coaches are friendly and professional. He is learning lots of new Football skills. I would recommend the Academy and Holiday camp.

Great gym, excellent team (very friendly and helpful - whatever your body shape or fitness level they are not judgmental) and first rate equipment. Everything from easy parking to top quality showers, the guys at David Lloyd have thought about the members experience. My only issue would be they don’t take cash - but that’s more about my worry about us losing the right to use cash. Happy to recommend to my friends and family - for 100% happiness, take cash.

I just want to say what a fantastic addition the No 1 Football Academy is to the facilities at David Lloyd, Westbury. My son, 14 years old, has been involved in the academy under the careful tutelage of the professional and experienced coaches, carefully led by Michael Meaker, for a number of years now. He has developed a real love of both football and general health and fitness due to Michael and these positive role models with whom he has spent much quality time with during his football and fitness sessions. He is now able to fully use his membership which is complimented brilliantly with his academy sessions. He has developed a new found love for the gym so thank you for providing something for your teenage members.

I have just read a previous review and felt the need to leave a review of my experience. I find it amazing that i can exercise in the morning then work in the business hub for a couple of hours and then go and have a swim. I think this is brilliant that DV clubs can accommodate that and help people work and keep fit at the same time. This is not the gyms fault that someone doesn’t feel comfortable seeing people combining work & fitness. It looks like some comments and 1 star reviews have nothing to do with the club and its a shame that people feel the need to validate themselves by leaving a bad review on Google. I am so so happy my husband and i have joined the club, my only regret is that we haven’t done that sooner! PS My only comment would be - adding more sugar-free & healthy options to snacks and drinks like lemonade and ice coffee with sugar free syrup etc to the menu.
