MEDICAL GASLIGHTERS. I would give no stars if I could. They make out that you're fine, that you're actually doing well, that you're "resilient". They gaslight you when you need help the most. Shame on them. Disgusting way to treat abuse victims and sufferers of serious mental health problems. My severe mental illness was caused by early chronic gaslighting, and now these medical 'professionals' try to make out I'm doing ok and that my distress isn't real?! Absolutely disgusting. I struggle with daily tasks like feeding and washing myself, housework etc. I frequently feel suicidal and have made 2 attempts this year so far. I have very bad self image. I don't have many friends. I don't have the mental health to have a partner but when I try they usually replicate the abuse I experienced as a child. I self harm and self medicate frequently. I am overwhelmed by very simple things. I AM NOT OK!! The harm they have caused has really changed my outlook on the world. To keep myself safe I will no longer attempt to access help from these people. There isn't help available, and worse, to make themselves feel better, they actively harm by gaslighting. The NHS have actively harmed me and countless others. It's so deeply depressing. To protect myself, I will no longer be a part of this abusive relationship. If you have experienced something similar, you are not alone. I know several people this has happened to. People who've experienced serious abuse and the effects of it, and who desperately need help, not yet more gaslighting. This is not a reflection of your worth. It really isn't. There's a research paper: 'Escaping Iatrogenic Harm by Wren Aves' (which can be found by googling those words) and so many elements of it really resonated. I found it validating after my repeated gaslighting by the NHS. I wonder how many people have similar experiences. And I wonder how many people these 'care' workers have killed by gaslighting alone. May these people reap what they sow.

Had a previous bad experience with a ‘recovery specialist’ here before, but since then met with two psychiatrists that were very helpful, and had complaint dealt with well by the team manager. My recent third visit with another psychiatrist however, was far from good. Colossal arrogance, telling me how I don’t have the mental health issues / disorders that have plagued my life for decades, based off of simply being sat in the same room for 5 mins. I do struggle describing symptoms due to alexithymia , though this in it’s self is a symptom of of the very issues I was there for ( took about 4 attempts of saying this for it to sink in even a little. The invalidating, condescending & patronising nature persisted throughout. Seems to think alcohol and opiates are better than 0.1 milligrams of blood pressure medication? Talking about suicidal ideation was met accusations of being manipulative and not taken seriously at all. Medications that have been a great help and are designed specially for my needs are actually going to make things worse (insert cherry picked side effect pseudo-rational) . For example being told an anti-depressant medication wouldn’t be suitable because it can lead to gambling. (The closest I’ve ever got is reviving a scratch card in a Xmas card from my aunti) + No history of substance use disorder or addiction. Left feeling angry, distraught and hopeless (total opposite to previous doctors at the practice). Prevention of downstream consequences was clearly not a priority whatsoever. — Can’t remember Drs name but supposedly the resident psychiatrist I think? ( would explain all the 1/2 star reviews ).

If I could leave a 0 review - I would. Further more, there’s no website, there’s no contact email, just a tel number with a postal address. I guess that way it’s easier to not be held accountable for the pure negligence of the staff from this facility. I called to raise a concern re: a family member. I spoke to a woman who did the literal bare minimum, zero care to reassure or resolve the issue. The concern was raised about a patient’s wellbeing as she was not taking her medication and declining in mental stability. I voiced my concern for the safety of herself and the people around her, yet the woman on the phone responded as if I was over reacting. They know that she’s not been taking her medication, yet nothing has been done. When I suggested that, since I live/am calling from outside the UK, that she contact another member of our family in the UK for updates, she asked “why would we do that?” She didn’t bother to ask for any details from myself, or a next-of-kin contact. And the course of action on her part was “emailing the team co-ordinator to raise it with the nurse”. Sure - send an email about an urgent matter when a mentally ill patient of theirs is not taking their medication, and currently outside of Bristol wandering around with a very high potential to be a danger to others and themselves! What an atrocious response that shows a complete lack of care! Do they not care that the patient is not taking their medication? Why was no one notified that it was the case? Do they only care when it’s too late? Absolutely appalling! If any harm come to the patient or those around them, I will be compelled to take legal action.

Terrible experience. Lack of compassion. Cold approach. Left re-traumatised and treated with no regard. The walls are paper thin you can hear conversations from the next room. Staff make no effort to soften the blows of the incessantly slamming doors. I Have a complex condition and on medication that only a psychiatrist can prescribe or review and I'm turned away saying I should pay for private psychotherapy despite having to quit my job becsuse my MH is so poor as if I could afford to do that. I feel frustrated, like I haven't been listened to. Right I'll just be left with no support no quality of life. That's just great.

They are good people, but they miss the resource to good a good job and help the people properly. Luckily I found some money to go private, and as soon as I started private my medications have been changed.

Bless their Hearts... They are a bunch of lovely humans, confined by some secrete system (not really secret but they don't want to communicate about it) that has a very archaic view of how the brain works. They could do with a little more education on the current understanding of the nervous system and how it functions in each individual, but through them helping me, I hope they manage to learn something. Much Love. And good luck on your Travels' x x x x

It's so saddening writing this review. I feel that my mum is not getting the level of help that she needs and we have told the mental health crisis team that something serious is going happen. The crisis team came round to see her for 30 minutes and have deemed her not needing additional help stating that "the family are over reacting". That same night she went missing, taking her tablets with her and we had to call the police to find her. We have called them on several occasions to help us but its not happening quick enough. We as a family feel so let down by the system and I just hope no other family has to go through what we are going through.

Please do not send yourself here. The most disgusting neglectful place that you would never want to have for help. I could go through a list of things that they do not do right and have proven to break policy. They are constant liars and seem to slip under the radar. I don't know how this place is still running. Please if anyone has shared similar experiences let people know, get help and leave a review. It could save someone's mental health Speedwell is a centre of abuse.
