I’m a little troubled with this review. Staff were lovely and they changed us rooms when we asked for it. Breakfast was included and the daily rate was unbelievably low but there were lows, not so clean room carpets, think walls rooms and tiny bathrooms. The room we got was spacious and had a tv and chimney. Good location and again, very competitive price. Great for 1 or 2 nights max.

Literally the worst value for money of any hotel room in my life. Arrived before 11pm Saturday, yet couldn't get a drink in bar or room, despite asking - and all pubs in town were also closed. No chargers/plugs by bed. Dated rooms with stained paintwork and faded old pictures. Mould in the bathroom, pervasive smell of damp in room. Hot water takes minutes to come through. Call to reception unanswered. Car charger not working. Single decaf sachet in double room.

Booked a double room at the last minute and was mesmerised by the beautiful gardens and hotel. Room was clean, had fresh towels, shower was rejuvenating. Bed was comfy, with 5* hotel style pillows and had a great sleep! Views from the window are superb. Highly recommend this hotel. Near to Bath only 20 mins drive away. Thank you to the staff for a great overnight and day experience. Loved it. A real countryside experience. Blissful, scenic and beautiful.

Hidden Charges. BEWARE! 30% extras. Booked with booking.com including for a dog. Also (belt and braces) emailed hotel to confirm dog. They said " no problem we will put a lovely dog bed in the room". Nothing else mentioned. Upon arrival were told £50 extra dog fee plus £50 damage waiver. When challenged they pointed to the small print. " may" be additional charges for dogs. There was no dog bed provided so had to complain again about that. They then found at best a cat bed 24cm diameter. Dog could not possibly fit. Pointless. Unless you want to eat your breakfast and dinner on your lap on a sofa in the lounge (no tables) or outside, don't bring your dog. Bar area was only other option but was grim. No WiFi in the garden rooms. TV worked only intermittently perhaps for same reason? Wasn't going to try to complain further! Lovely gardens but dogs not allowed off lead because signs state " the gardener is too scared of dogs". Junior staff were truly great, Senior staff very poor indeed. Some of the conversations we overheard between staff you would not credit! Never again.

We just had our wedding reception here and had an amazing time. The day went exactly as planned and the staff were amazing to bring it all together. The food was exceptional and enjoyed by all. Those with dietary requirements were well catered for as were the children. The grounds and venue are amazing and idyllic which produced the most amazing photos. The honeymoon suite is large, well equipped and very comfortable despite being somewhat more expensive than the other rooms (worth the additional fee). The events team were great at keeping in touch and meeting our needs for our wedding. There was just two niggles but they weren’t a show stoppers. We had hoped for the traditional outdoor Christmas tree but this wasn’t to be and was made up for by having many indoor trees. There was only the bar food menu offered the night before, that said the food was delicious then too (be sure to pre-book if you don’t want a long wait for larger groups). Be aware of time keeping for meals, you must be prompt otherwise you risk not getting fed without an additional fee. Meal timings are clearly displayed. It is a great spot for a wedding. I recommend this place for others considering a wedding of this type.

We stayed here for their Christmas package (24th -27th) and so pleased we did! It could not have been better value for money, beautiful hotel, cosy room, amazing food and the staff were super friendly and attentive. We took our 2 little dogs and there were dog beds, a new little toy each and bowls waiting in the room for them, which was so sweet. We’ve never gone away for Christmas before but absolutely loved it, the staff made it very special and we will definitely be returning in the summer!

I’m not impressed. Room was exceptionally small for 2 people and everything is tired. The floor in our room runs at an angle and everything creaks. There is cobwebs on fittings in every room. The building is cold. The service in the restaurant and at breakfast was poor. A lot of children servers with no management directing or ensuring good service. We waited over 30 mins for breakfast to be delivered and it was a quiet time. When it did arrive it was warm not hot. I wouldn’t recommend here nor would I ever stay again.

Staff was rude to me during breakfast. Booked a double bed room, but was given a single bed. The shower was so low I had to bend down to have a proper shower,it was also really hard to regulate the water temperature. The mattress was in a bad condition... The best thing was the quality of the breakfast, but don't expect great service.

Lovely food and wine, Nice dinner and breakfast. Nice area to stay. The cleaners need to clean around the taps, plug holes, drains and grouting, shower heads, there was black mold and limescale build up and orange soap scum around the tiles in shower. Also the shower was one of those fixed up high ones, that you can't lower down.

We and our friends stayed her for 3 nights. The location of the hotel is fantastic - house and grounds in particular. Accommodation a little tired perhaps and could do with sprucing-up. The staff are not unfriendly, generally, but are a little too servile (aloof in some ways). There was an incident on the Saturday evening involving wedding guests. Lots of disturbance outside our room and someone clearly badly injured. Sadly, no one felt the need to communicate with us and no response via room phone or mobile. Sadly, at the time we had no idea if we were safe in our room. The staff, the next morning stated that they had no responsibility for the actions of guests and didn't even seem to feel that the incident should be reviewed, lessons learned and their Health and Safety procedures adapted. To add insult to injuring I was told when checking out that we had not paid for our room. Fortunately, I had access to my credit card statement and could prove otherwise. I have written to the hotel recently but the response was I felt sadly unhelpful. The response even denied that the receptionist had made an error re the room payment. Not too good...
