My partner and I stayed for two nights at the hotel recently. The rooms were truly impressive - spotless, quiet, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The staff were warm, courteous, and genuinely attentive throughout our stay. These aspects really reflected the standard you’d expect from a high-end hotel. Unfortunately, several issues seriously let the experience down. We booked directly through the hotel’s website, which clearly stated that direct bookings include a complimentary bottle of wine - yet none was provided. When we raised this at checkout, we received no explanation, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. There was also no bottled water in the room, something that should be standard in any 5-star property. We ended up having to buy our own from Tesco, which was both inconvenient and disappointing. Finally, we had booked treatments at the Spa Village and were supposed to receive a 20% discount for booking directly. We were charged the full amount instead, and only after bringing it up at checkout was the price adjusted. These lapses in attention to detail and communication are unacceptable for a hotel positioning itself as a luxury 5-star destination. A beautiful room and kind staff can’t make up for misleading offers and service oversights of this nature. 2/5

Took my partner here for his birthday and to propose. The team were so attentive and friendly and were able to sort a couple of surprises… champagne in the room and rose petals on the bed. The couples massage was incredible. Spa very nice, waters are lovely. Great breakfast too. Would highly recommend. The only criticism (but I slept well) was the bed was harder than I’d like but the bedding was so comfy and the rooms are stunning with lots of attention to detail.

Absolutely wonderful experience. We have stayed before; each time for three nights. The Hotel is breathtaking, elegant with a beautiful ambience. The staff are immaculate, kind and professional. Beautiful ladies on reception. Howard, was very helpful and kind. We just can't fault our experoence in anyway.

We had a wonderful stay! We originally booked a standard room but were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the best suite in the hotel — and the hospitality was truly exceptional from start to finish. There were lovely little touches waiting for us when we arrived, and when we returned from dinner, we found a thoughtful box of cheeses, the curtains drawn, and the bed beautifully prepared for the night. The hotel’s location is very central, which meant it could be a little busy and noisy at times, but the mattress was so comfortable that we still had one of the best nights of sleep we’ve ever had in a hotel! We also booked massage treatments and spent time enjoying the spa facilities — both were absolutely amazing. Every member of staff was attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to make our stay special. It was such a memorable experience, and we’ll definitely return when visiting Bath again — or perhaps try one of their other properties elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I had an incredible 2-night stay here this weekend (mid-January 2023). From the very start we were met with helpful and kind staff and our room was lovely. Things such as the shower and hair dryer were great too, sounds simple but these can often be the downfall of a hotel room. The bed was probably the comfiest hotel bed I’ve ever slept on; it had a really soft mattress topper. Plus the mini fridge is entirely complimentary. The spa is also such a lovely experience for guests. It is available 8-10am and 7-9pm for hotel guests only. We went twice during our stay, once in the morning and once in the evening. Both times were relatively busy, but the morning slot was slightly quieter. The hot thermal bath and the steam room were my personal highlights. I hope to stay again soon and would highly recommend, especially to couples looking for a romantic stay.

Myself and my husband stayed here for 1 night for our joint birthday celebration, and we couldn’t of had a more relaxing time. The location is 10/10, hospitality and service was 10/10 and the spa facilities were a 10/10. The car park is around a 4/5 minuet walk way, but we pulled up right outside of the hotel where one of the staff collected all of our bags, and gave us some instructions on how to get to the car park. We took the opportunity to explore bath and get some lunch for a couple of hours before heading back to the hotel. The Roman bath attraction was about a 3/4 minuet walk away, along with some fantastic restaurants and the city centre. We had exclusive access to the bath spa in the hotel from 7pm-9pm which was absolutely brilliant. A great way to wind down after a day or travelling/exploring. Breakfast was £30pp which included a continental breakfast and a choice or a full English or avocado and poached egg on toast and one other option. We initially thought it was over priced, but for convince it was okay as we had our spa treatments booked for 11am, if we had more time, no doubt we would of really got our moneys worth. Check in and out was super easy, the room was a lovely size with a comfy bed, with a fully stocked, and complimentary mini fridge. Overall a brilliant stay and would 100% come back. Thank you again to all staff!

Currently staying here as a present for my birthday, couldn’t have had a better experience! Staff are so helpful and friendly. The room is absolutely amazing. So spacious and comfy, lovely amenities. The Spa is spectacular. The hotel has a great central location to do and see everything we wanted. Thank you so much to all the staff for the most wonderful stay, we would highly recommend and definitely be returning x

Having stayed here before the pandemic and really enjoying the hotel, we booked one night at the Gainsborough as a birthday treat. Sadly the hotel did not meet our expectations of a luxury 5* hotel this time around. Here are the notable differences… Service: Whist the staff are still friendly, the service is nowhere near as polished as before. For example, on check-in our bags were left in reception despite us raising a concern. Our mini bar was not stocked up on arrival. A staff member walked into our room without knocking. Breakfast service wasn’t well managed with guests left waiting for their food. Atmosphere: Prior to the pandemic the hotel had a nice buzz about it. I can only put this down to Dan Moon’s excellent restaurant in the hotel which is sadly no longer there. In fact, lunch and dinner service has been shut down completely. It feels as though the heart of the hotel has now gone and also the bar is not quite the same as it was. In fairness, the UK hospitality industry is facing a very tough time right now. I can only hope that given time the hotel will be back to it’s prime. However, right now, being marketed as a 5* luxury hotel is questionable.
