Booked a holiday to Sri Lanka. Felt pressured into paying a deposit. After paying, I was asked for more money as they'd forgotten to add the driver's accommodation to the payment. I should have cancelled then. However they withdrew that payment. Our circumstances changed and we had to cancel the holiday which was 3 months away and the final payment still a month away. I notified them and requested a partial refund of the deposit but was refused saying they'd already used it. I had booked all accommodation so the only payment was the driver, not yet used. Feel let down by this company. Be careful when booking

Girls Trip 2025 – An Unforgettable Moroccan Adventure! We had the most amazing experience exploring Morocco on our girls’ trip — my sister, best friend, and her daughter. From start to finish, Travel Local and our coordinator Hamid were incredible. He was so attentive, tailoring every detail to our wishlist and even accommodating our last-minute changes with ease. Our guide, Oualid, was truly the heart of our journey. From the moment our luggage was lost, I knew we were in the best hands — he went above and beyond to make sure our trip would still be unforgettable. And it absolutely was! From Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, Fez, Chefchaouen, and Casablanca — every stop was filled with special touches and genuine care. Oualid treated us like family, arranging unique local experiences, helping us track down our luggage, going pine cone searching, and even surprising me with a birthday cake and desert dancing that lasted all night! We are truly blessed to have experienced the beauty and warmth of Morocco through Oualid’s eyes. This trip exceeded every expectation — highly recommended!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I was assured I would receive a refund of my deposit within 2 weeks before my trip. It's more than 3 months away, and I've requested the refund on account of not being able to go at that time (unsure when to reschedule), and now I'm having to put a dispute in with my credit card company.

Overall, we were extremely happy with our tour – it was wonderfully diverse: from days in Quito, to what felt like a real journey back in time in the Amazon, then on to the Cotopaxi mountain region, and finally the Galapagos Islands. This mix was perfect for us and exactly what we had hoped for from the trip. A few points for improvement that might also be helpful for other travelers: • Travel documents & changes: The final documents we received before the trip were not always fully up to date. There were indeed some changes on site, but we were not actively informed about them in advance. It wasn’t a big issue, but it would have helped us in our preparation. On the ground, however, we were always picked up on time, all transfers were perfectly organized, and we were assisted with check-ins for multiple domestic flights without any issues. That part was really excellent! • Amazon / Sacha Lodge: The information we received stated that we would be able to decide on the tours with our guide once on site. In reality, however, we were assigned to a small group and the tours were therefore pre-set. That was absolutely fine and enjoyable – but not what had originally been communicated. It wasn’t clear that this would not be a private tour or that we wouldn’t be able to choose the activities ourselves. The only option would have been to skip something. • Quito: Beforehand, we had emphasized several times that we didn’t want a classic city tour but rather a focus on local food and art/street art. In the end, however, it turned out to be exactly that: a very history-oriented tour. A pity, because Quito clearly has so much more potential. There were food stalls and cevicherias on every corner, which we found very exciting and ended up exploring on our own. Our guide wasn’t really open to this approach, as he was very much set on the “classic city tour.” • Detailed advice: Our Travel Local expert did a great job in putting the trip together overall. However, at times it felt as though he/she didn’t really know what the tours on site would actually look like. The standard answer was, “you can discuss that with the guide on site.” This took away some of our orientation. Especially for things like “How much time will we spend on the boat?” or “How challenging will the hike really be?” we would have appreciated more clarity in advance – also to build up the right kind of anticipation. “Hike” could mean anything from a short walk, to an hour-long flat trek, to climbing over rocky terrain – and that simply wasn’t clear beforehand. All in all, it was a fantastic trip that we will remember very fondly. We are very grateful for the organization and the variety, but for the future we would wish for more precise and personalized advice on the details, tailored to the needs of the travelers.

When I travel, I'm conscious of trying to go with local companies in order to best support the local economy, which led me to a Google search and TravelLocal. From my experience, TravelLocal isn't actually a tour agency, but it's more of a broker - connecting you with someone who listens to your wants/needs, and then that person connects you with a local tour group, while TravelLocal collects all of the money. In my case, I had to cancel my travel plans and TravelLocal kept over $2,300 without ever providing any tour experience. The contract you eventually sign with TravelLocal is pretty unforgiving (though if you want to book a tour with them, then you have no choice to agree to it... which is why I'd suggest not booking a tour with TravelLocal - they simply use smaller, local tour agencies that you can find via Google yourself). As a small business owner myself, I get it - you don't want people signing up and then willy nilly canceling at the last minute. Of course, there's also a balance that should probably be struck - holding on to thousands of dollars without providing any services seems to indicate TravelLocal is more interested in your money than your experience. In conclusion - buyer beware. There are local tourism agencies in most places that you'll be traveling to - whether you choose to go through a middleman like TravelLocal could literally cost you thousands of dollars more than you needed to spend.

Our trip to Sri Lanka was planned by an excellent local representative. We had a very good knowledgeable driver for our stay. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, wonderful people, excellent food and very clean, well worth a visit. Thank you.

Just back from an amazingly well organised trip to Costa Rica with my family. All arranged through Travel Local and one of their local agents (Ecole Travel) who were fantastic. Their recommendations were spot on and they were accommodating with any changes and tweaks we needed before, during and even after the trip. A great way to travel!

We first encountered Travel Local when we won a trip to Myanmar from the Wanderlust magazine in February 2017. They were sponsors of the competition and their initial phone call to us was truly infectious with their enthusiasm. Travel Local put us in touch with Expeditions Myanmar (also sponsors) who generated an itinerary which was eventually agreed. They also put us in touch with Flight Centre who arranged the flights. The trip was made at the end of September and throughout the intervening period Travel Local maintained contact with all the helpful details which we needed. Their local knowledge, along with that of Expeditions Myanmar, was invaluable. We recommend their service most highly.

We have gone to India, Burma, Ecuador and Galapagos through TravelLocal on three occasions and will not hesitate to book through TL again. Fabulous destinations, unforgettable experiences, efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and great value! Why go to anyone else?

My wife and I used TravelLocal for our travels through parts of West Africa. They use local agents based in the countries visited. Every part of the itinerary could be tailor-made to our exact requirements. The journey went extremely well and we had an absolutely fabulous time. From the moment we touched down to our departure we were looked after well. The journey involved participating in local festivals, interacting with local people and immersing ourselves in their culture. It was wonderful. Thanks to TravelLocal and their local agents for making that happen.
