   I came to Prof Winters after I found out I have a genetic mutation that elevates my risk of breast and ovarian cancer. I was absolutely terrified, having never undergone any type of surgery or breast screening before. I uploaded my genetic test results before my appointment with Prof Winters, expecting her to not even see them, but when I arrived at my appointment she had multiple tabs open and was actively researching my rare mutation. I have never met with a doctor who made me feel so seen and heard and like 100% of her attention was focused on me during my one-hour slot. She used the entire hour to calm my nerves and even drew me diagrams to explain things like breast density and how a preventative mastectomy is performed. She really put me at ease for my first mammogram, ultrasound, and MRI. And even though she’s a breast specialist, she wanted me to understand every risk of my mutation, so she referred me to a geneticist and gynecologist, both of which were at the top of their fields and extremely helpful. Unfortunately by the time I decided to go ahead with a preventative mastectomy, Prof Winters was on medical leave and couldn’t perform the operation, but she referred me to an equally talented and kind surgeon and I am so pleased with my experience and results.

   I visited Professor Zoe's breast clinic in October. She was personable and immediately made me feel welcomed and comfortable to discuss my concerns and have her do an examination on my breasts. I really appreciated that she took the time to explain things to me helping me to understand the anatomy of the breast and providing me with useful knowledge. Unfortunately, not many doctors do this. Professor Zoe stood out to me as a highly knowledgeable and caring doctor, so I recommend the clinic to anyone who needs it! She is brilliant!

   My introduction to Professor Zoe Winters also began via telephone with her lovely Practice Manager, Jenny. Jenny couldn't have been more kind, helpful and generous with time, advice and information. The whole screening process was professional, efficient and relaxed and that radiologists thorough and personable. Prof Winters is the complete package: highly skilled, knowledgeable, intelligent and compassionate and, at the same time able to communicate clearly and sympathetically both orally and in writing. Her follow-up (written info and further explanations on topics discussed, referrals) to my appointment was impeccable.

   I am so pleased that my GP referred me to Professor Winters. She was personable from the outset and listened to my issues as well as asking about my family health history to get a full background before examining and assessing me. It was evident that she is a professor, in that she was very clear and detailed in her explanations. However, I never felt that I was in a lecture. I felt that I was having a discussion with an expert in her field, which I was. She referred me for further tests which were done while I was there. The team working with her were all very friendly and efficient. I left the appointment feeling very reassured. Professor Winters followed up the appointment the same day with some information and research relating to what we had discussed in the appointment, which I found very helpful. Within two days I received the detailed report of the appointment, tests, and next steps. I would highly recommend Professor Winters and her team.

   Professor Zoe treated my consultation like a teacher-student session. She started lecturing from the get-go before listening fully to what I’m there for. She jumped to conclusions from the beginning based on assumptions she had as I was post-partum. Explaining duct and such before listening fully to why I was there. And every time I tried to explain what I was feeling and how it’s impacting me she kept interrupting me with technical terms and explaining what she thought I had before she even examined me. I had a 30 minute crash course on how the breast tissues are and what feels normal and what does not. Was told not to misuse the word “lump” and I most likely I don’t have one, before she even looked at my breasts or examined me. She kept correcting everything I said. I truly felt like I was there trying to pass an exam or something. Then while examining and of course to her surprise she found… wait for it…. Yes. A lump! If she had listened to me she wouldn’t have felt embarrassed and actually said “professor Zoe you stand corrected” to herself. I had a massive lump indeed. In fact it was the largest she had ever felt. If she focuses less on lecturing and more on listening to her patients the entire experience would have been a 5 stars. Because honestly the rest of the team were simply impeccable. Much more compassionate and catering to my needs throughout the process. I hope this incident sheds some light and helped her realise that patients are not students. You need to do less of the talking and more of the listening. She almost intentionally meant to use the session to nurture her know-it all attitude which honestly made me zone out mid way. Nevertheless I’m glad I had the cyst removed on the day by the radiologist which to me was the most added value segment of the entire consultation. I could have easily skipped the 30 minutes lecture and went straight to the scan. Would have made the experience easier and simpler. Thank you.

   I went in for a breast exam and came out a new woman with a PHD in fibroadenomas. Prof Zoe Winters is an exceptional woman who clearly cares a lot about her patients, and is a true expert in her field. She took the time to educate me about my "breast lump", which was examined and tested efficiently by Dr Charlotte Longman, another lovely lady at the surgery. Speaking to them filled me with confidence that I would receive world class treatment, plus an energy boost just from being around intelligent, kind women. 6/5 stars if it was possible.
