   What a gem! My elderly aunt asked to go there for lunch, as she has enjoyed previous visits (as had my partner). Although the chairs offered insufficient lumber support for my back problems, a rolled up blanket was provided to solve the problem. Not knowing the menu (and anything you can find for this café online is completely out of date), I had been apprehensive about their ability to cater for my onion intolerance. I needn’t have worried. Although their standard sauces and gravies have stock containing onions (as do all restaurants), they were more than willing to adapt any of the dishes where possible without notice, and I very much enjoyed my herb-crumbed Hake, mash and mixed vegetables. My aunt enjoyed the same dish. I enjoyed a rhubarb and strawberry crumble with ice-cream for dessert, and my aunt had a half serving ( a great facility) of chocolate roulade. When we had finished, co-owner and chef Pete, came over to sit and chat. He said that with a day’s notice he would make any of their dishes to suit my intolerance – I had really fancied the liver and bacon, but the available gravies had onion in some form. Next time! It’s not the first time a chef has sat with me to discuss such matters, but it’s probably happened fewer than a dozen times in 50 years. It’s also good to know that most of the items are home- made. The front of house staff were also great, and at a total cost of £33, excellent value for the quality of food. My one reservation was that my apple juice (which seemed to be from concentrate) was served at room temperature, not chilled. They don’t have a licence to sell alcohol, but perhaps could stock some ‘low 0.5% or zero alcohol’ drinks, which don’t require a licence and aren’t as sweet as the carbonated drinks.

   Lovely feeling well maintained and very atmospheric English place with great food! We dropped in here on occasion but it turned out to be a very good breakfast/lunch place. Would 1000% recommend the breakfasts and dessert!

   Excellent food and cheerful staff. We had breakfast and it was very good. There's a small place in the back of the cafe with 3 benches, which was very nice. Overall very happy with experience.
