A lovely lunch, beautiful flavours and service. Definitely on its way to a Michelin star again!

Went on a Saturday night for dinner, with Sommelier's choice wine pairing. Service was well paced- time between courses was perfect, we were neither rushed nor left waiting between courses. Some particular highlights were the XO dumpling, the dampersand bread and the chocolate pudding.

This little gem of a restaurant is hidden away in the centre of Ilkley. From the moment you've entered the restaurant, the service is exemplary and the food simply follows suit. Great tasting food, which examples real skill in the flavour combinations and artistry. This was our second visit for the Sunday lunch set menu and it was first class. We took friends with us on this occasion and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We came here on Christmas eve for my wife's birthday. The meal was pretty good, but pretty good doesn't cut it when you're paying Β£400 for a meal and wine. Let start with the good bits. The scallop + parsnip puree was divine. The soufle for dΓ©sert was good also but unsuprising and a little plain. The bread was salty and sweet and was complimented perfectly by a trio of butters. I was unimpressed by the menu in general, nothing that exciting or interesting. We had a box tree 'christmas pudding' which consisted of some Luke warm brandy cream with some puffed rice. The main was a Christmas dinner which was nice, but not anything special. I think there is a hard cap on how good a Christmas day roast can be, and would have expected this to be at that cap. It was not. Had we paid 1/4 of the price that we did I would give the meal 5 stars. However, we didn't and at a restaurant with the box trees reputation I expected a memorable evening that I would want to tell people about, instead I felt obliged to write this review in the hope that other locals don't feel the need to try the box tree, as there are many other better restaurants in Ilkley (in my opinion).

First visit but definitely not our last! This was an amazing night of tasting great food served by great staff. Great atmosphere I can’t explain in words how great every part of the evening was the food took centre stage. Many thanks to every member of staff from the front of house to the chefs.

Amazing tasting course and service. Second time and will definitely come back in the future. No pretentiousness, just quality throughout.

Came here for our ten year anniversary and they did not disappointment. Card on the table to congratulate was a lovely touch. The sommelier was fantastic, lots of great picks and information. And the food... I was a little worried it would be all style and no substance but I couldn't have been more wrong. Everything was out of this world in flavour, quality and texture. Honestly one of the best meals I have every eaten, worth every penny. We will hopefully be back soon!

There aren't many meals more English than a Sunday roast, and The Box Tree makes a fantastic roast. The quality of the produce and service is excellent, but they take everything up to a higher level without taking away from the "roast". Rather than reimagining, they add to the classic, with accompaniments like layered and double roasted potatoes, and delicately seasoned and cooked whole carrots. It's all an excellent addition that doesn't take away from the roast or Yorkshire pudding. The building itself is also historic and old, so you feel comforted and cosy in the warm space.

From arrival to leaving this restaurant treats its customers like they are their only guests. Attentive and friendly and a very comfortable relaxed atmosphere. As for the food there are not enough superlatives to do it justice. Flavours were subtle and then strong. Dishes served beautifully. And the idea of updating 60 years of previous menus is just inspired. I would very very highly recommend.

Just back from Father's Day here. While I enjoyed the starter and parts of the main, I cannot say they took me on a culinary experience (when they served all it was - "Here is your cured salmon". Plus the overall cost. We booked on Friday for 4. Took my husband at a treat, rang ahead asked about kids' meals. They reassured me that while they did not have a kids' menu, they would provide a lower-cost main meal for our kids aged 3.5 and 5. When we got there, they said they had never done anything like this and sent the chef to get some pasta. They informed us they would do pasta with some tomato sauce. Not ideal, but I agreed and suggested they added some asparagus and some other veg to it. When served our mains, it was plain pasta (no sauce) with some peas and bits of asparagus. The shock came when we saw Β£40 on the bill for the kid's courses. Total bill Β£196. We argued the Β£40 and got Β£10 off. In addition, there was a service charge of 12.5% which I thought was a bit unfair, since we were only a group of 4, not 6 ( I would expect service charge for a group of 6+). Nonetheless, the service was good and these people worked on a Sunday. No issues there while the service could be improved overall. Overall, there was almost too much food (mostly carbs) and I feel 2 course option should be offered at lunch time. Those in between nibbles and bread are not needed and did not present any value. I ordered white wine, the first glass came as small, the second as a larger one, I was charged Β£9 each regardless (I asked for a large in the first instance). Sadly, I cant say I would like to come back here.
