Disappointing Experience We visited Ustad Hotel Leicester again after a year, hoping for a better experience, but it was worse. Went there with a hope of having a decent weekend meal, totally disappointed. We ordered Lamb Biriyani and Chicken Biriyani. lamb biryani, it was mostly bones, like curry pieces, not proper biryani cuts, and not even fully cooked. Hardly any meat to eat. The biryanis had no real flavour, onions were half-cooked, and I even found unpeeled ginger pieces. For a name like Ustad Hotel, we expected authentic Kerala taste, but it was far from it. We had to ask for water multiple times and only received it when we were nearly done eating. The seating and ambiance were not comfortable either, but for us Keralites, taste matters more than comfort..and unfortunately, even that was missing. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone expecting Kerala-style food.

Good authentic Malabar style food. We went on a weekend and had their special Kalyana Biriyani. It's served on banana leaf, with accompaniments -salad, chutney and pickle with chicken fry. Easily shared between 2.

Ustad Hotel is in Leicester. Ustad Hotel is a Indian restaurant. Specialized in Kerala food (taste of Malabari). Compared to other Indian restaurants, food prices are cheaper than others. Foods are very tasty and good service from the staffs. This Restaurant is in the centre of the Leicester city. So very hard to find out the parking spaces. But we can use the pay and park carpark surrounding these area.

Although the entrance is small and somewhat hard to find, the spacious seating area occupying the entire basement is a pleasant surprise. The food is tasty, and the service meets expectations. My only critique is the portion size; when we ordered the fish curry, the fish portion was smaller than expected, and it would have been better if it included at least two pieces.

Tasty Kerala dishes. Ordered several dishes and all are delicious and come with good quantity. Price are very affordable for all foods that ordered. Atmosphere is good as this restaurant is in basement and some issues with mouldy smell from carpet due to rain water. But they are maintaining well to clear it. Very friendly and hardworking staff.

We visited the place on a Saturday afternoon. We traveled from Stoke on Trent to Leicester, a day trip. Not only for the shop but to explore the city as well. I won't recommend this place to 'foodies' tbh. The price is reasonable and the quantity was good but still worried about the quality. We ordered 2 biriyanis, the choice of ordering biriyani was an unwise decision . 'chatty chor' is a must try item from the menu for those who never tried the item back in kerala. The juice, shake and sulaimani we ordered were nice. The 'kizhiporootta- chicken' was a flop. I never tasted such bad kizhiporotta ever. There are many things which they could work on, the recommendation is the table services, that was not up to the mark, the starter we ordered delivered at the end , minor things but very easy to improve. The washing space, can be cleaned on 2 or 3 hourly basis as I believe many people visit the restaurant on a short span of time.

Best affordable kerala cuisine. Visited them twice now. Today we were fortunate enough to try the Arabic Spicy rice which comes with chunks of lamb meat. It was mind blowing. The chef personally came and spoke to us, saying it was a new dish introduced and he wanted our feedback. Here we go !! It’s amazing and spicy ( not the right choice for people who can’t deal with that ). Dishes we tried were Kizhi parotta, meen polichathu, idiyappam, chatti choru.

Located in Highfield Street, just off London Road, the curry mile of Leicester, Ustad Hotel offers excellent authentic cuisine unique to North Kerala. Although one may be lucky to get roadside parking, Victoria Park car park located just across the road would be the best option. The restaurant is located one floor below the ground level. The ambiance was good and staff friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent at reasonable price. The menu may be different from what one may be used to. We loved mutton stew, idiyappam, Kerala porotta, chicken curry and the special Chatti choru, which is rice mixed with many side dishes served in an earthen pot. All the dishes were delicious. We would definitely love to visit again.

The service was excellent. The ladies who were working made sure we were comfortable and were friendly. The food was amazing. The price is reasonable. And the quantity is very generous for the price. There is free 1 hour parking right in front of the restaurant. There is extra parking on the main road which is Β£0.30 for 30mins and can park up to 3 hours max. They accept card payment.
