Just bought a ham salad sandwich, really poor. 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of tomato and barely any lettuce. £3.75 won’t be back.

Appalling service. Ordered one sandwich one teacake and 2 coffees. 45 minutes later food arrived, half an hour after drinks. However, in the meantime they served 17 others, food included. If you order takeaway you get priority, but if you sit in be prepared for a wait. Coffee very weak and food definitely mediocre and not worth the wait. Plenty of other great places in Halifax.

THE ENGINE ROOM - Best Full English in Halifax, perhaps even Yorkshire. When I first looked at visiting Halifax in mid-December, I thought it looked rather bleak. But all the old wool carpet mills have been turned into an array of offices for various companies with cafes, restaurants and bars on the ground floors, and a Travelodge, where I stayed, at one end of Dean Clough Mills. The Engine Room is typical of finding a great cafe that really doesn’t look like much from the outside due to the stone built exterior and you wouldn’t know it’s a hidden gem. Inside there’s a large easy to read menu but best of all the prices for the food you receive, are absolutely worth every penny. I had been in an another cafe further in the town centre the day before for an all day breakfast but it was twice the price and nowhere near the quality of the Engine Room Full English. Tell me where else can you get what’s in my photo for £6.50 plus a hot drink for £2.60, all for well under a £Tenner these days? Food quality, the Full English is cooked to perfection. The mushrooms and small grilled tomatoes are a great touch, not swimming in tomato juice. Two lovely sausages and everything exactly as you want a cooked breakfast away from home to be. The Travelodge doesn’t do a cooked breakfast but it couldn’t compete with the Engine Room, if it did. Could anywhere in Yorkshire? There’s a challenge. I know where I’m going for breakfast, midday snacks and lunch the next time I’m in Halifax - The Engine Room.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Accommodated my toddlers request for cutting up his ham on his jacket potato. God knows he can be so fussy. Thanks to Lisa in particular for her patience with him.

EDIT - I went back this morning, we spoke about my previous order and they were very nice and understanding about it and it was partly due to new cookware differing the cooking times slightly. Safe to say I got the same sandwich only this time it was cooked to perfection!! Egg was overcooked and toast was undercooked, basic culinary science wouldn't go amiss here. Decent price though

food is usually okay, but if you are wanting quick food this is not the place. service is extremely slow most of the time if your ordering food. ordered a bacon butty and coffee, multiple people that came at least 15 minutes after me left with what looked like the exact same order yet mine took over 30 minutes?

Good food. Not the cheapest but given the location they know they can charge that little bit extra. Also gets very busy at lunch and phoning ahead doesn't really beat the queue as you still have to wait just as long for some reason. Staff are nice and food quality is on point though so it's all good.
