Came here with my family yesterday for Christmas lunch. The food was amazing, delicious & hot & the service was great considering it was so busy. Lovely atmosphere & everything went so smoothly. Couldn’t fault it. Would definitely consider coming back next Christmas Day.

Come here last night and was pleasantly surprised by the food we had and the service we received. The menu had a wide variety of options & was quite difficult to settle on a decision. The sticky platter i shared to myself but definitely needs a side to go with it. Everyone's food was exceptionally tasty & was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The drinks were good also. Puddings had to many choices & so I had to settle for the trio of puddings and safe to say I made the right choice cause each dessert was sublime. Gina who served us, I hope theyre paying this woman good money because she deserves a lot of praise as she was friendly, attentive & knowledgeable & not only that tried to ensure we were well looked after at all points. Definitely recommend coming here if you enjoy good pub food, albeit its not actually just pub food.

I’ve been going to this pub for over 20 years so I’m very familiar with it. I booked a table and asked for a seat by the fire in the bar area as you enter the pub. I was meeting my ex business partner for an annual catch up and was looking forward to a nice lunch by the fire. We both ordered the turkey Sunday roast. The turkey was fine but the whole meal was barely warm. The parsnips were burnt to a cinder and rock hard. Roast potatoes were rock hard and empty in the middle as though they were old and had been reheated. The veg was fine but there was literally only around a tablespoon of cabbage, peas and green beans in total so very little of it. The door to the pub didn’t shut properly, so unless a concerted effort was made by those coming in and out to make sure it was closed, it was left open with a cold wind blowing though. Between me and another table we must have left our seats to close it at least 15 times. The fire was barely lit, so I asked if someone could put some logs in it. A young man put three pieces of kindling on it but to no avail, so the fire was never burning throughout the whole 2+ hours we were there. In December! At no point did anyone ask how our food was or even come near us and when the deserts came, they had to be taken back to the kitchen while our table was cleared as they wouldn’t fit on the table. The desert was ok. Not too hard to go wrong there but pretty average. I gave my feedback to someone who I recognised as having worked there for a number of years and they did apologise and said they would inform the manager. Not his fault though. I know he has worked there when things were definitely better than now. As we were leaving, someone attempted to put some coal of the fire so he’d obviously re laid my comments, but a bit late by then. I was going to book for some friends and I to have lunch before Christmas but I won’t be eating there again unfortunately. If they can sort the fire and the door situation out, it’s a lovely, cosy place to have a drink, but I can no longer recommend the food. One star is for getting the table I requested (although I wish I hadn’t) and the other was for the desert and the fact that the turkey wasn’t as dry as the potatoes or burnt and the parsnips.

We had another great evening out here at the White Lion on Friday. Mark, Gina and the staff here were friendly and very accommodating.. Very pleasant comfy seating with tea light candles on the tables for a that more personal and romantic meal experience...❣️❤️❣️ The food was fresh, tasty and came out very quickly even though there were many people dining. Very pleased with our evening out so will happily return again soon. Great job guys and ladies (D)

We try many places for Sunday lunch, and this was the most expensive one in a while. It was also by far the worst. Honestly, I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this was particularly disappointing. Had I been asked about the meal when we paid the bill, I would have said plenty; as it was, they didn't seem interested, I suppose. The food was served mainly cold. I had the plate sent back to be warmed up, a full roast with cold vegetables though, how does that leave a kitchen? I was offered a fresh plate, for some reason, but I just asked for the food to be warmed. I also told the waitress that the roast potatoes were 'almost cooked'; they were chewy, small bullets with a greasy texture, and were about 80% cooked. Horrible. The beef was suitable for soling a stout shoe, nothing more. The turkey was dry beyond dry, and the tiny triangle of belly pork, though OK to eat, was laughably small. The tiny jug of runny gravy was surprisingly nice, but I needed to ask for more, which was fine. £22.95 for this food is outrageous. The place wasn't busy, and I think I know why.

Poor quality food - fantastic waiting staff.. this is their Calamari starter! Chewy and tasteless didn’t even come with a bit of Lemon to give it some taste - shame as it’s a nice pub and the waiting staff are lovely but what comes out the kitchen doors is very poor

On our recent visit to The White Lion which was a party of 19 we all enjoyed our meals and excellent service. We had a problem with the service charge but that was all sorted within the week by the Manager to my satisfaction. In the future rather than reading the small print at the bottom of the menu about the service charge it would save happening again if it was made more clearly verbally. I have had many meals with my family and friends over many years and I would always recommend highly the Food and service. I shall be visiting again very soon.

We were going to have steak for Sunday lunch, it was only 1pm and we were informed that the last steak had been sold, so the kitchen could plan better. I had the fish and chips which were lovely, my friend had the trio roast. The meat was lovely but it was new potatoes being used as roast, and they weren’t roasted, neither was the carrot nor parsnip, they were boiled, which was disappointing. There was also apple sauce put on the pork belly, which should be left to the individual as to whether they want apple sauce. We had starters too, the prawn and mango was lovely but the bread came without butter and none offered. The Camembert bites were great, would have been nice to have 3, 2 seemed very little

These were my starters as you can see no presentation ,the calamari was just chucked on the plate and the koftas were dry and burnt. They were sent straight back. When we went to order off the menu, the first two attempts we were told they had ran out,We should be told what’s not available on the menu firstly. The waitress had an attitude problem and only cleared our table after food and our drinks glasses were piled high by the end of the evening. We were seated next to to disabled toilets and they smelt disgusting and was dirty.I never put up bad reviews about places and never usually moan as I work in the restaurant industry myself, but this place has really gone down the hill and it’s such a shame to see.
