   We attended The Corner House for Christmas Day dinner, originally booked for 3 adults and 5 children. Due to a last-minute family emergency, we needed to add an extra adult and child. While this was accommodated at short notice, it should have been our first red flag. We arrived for our 2pm booking to find the restaurant surprisingly empty, with only around ten tables occupied. We were immediately met by the chef, whose attitude was passive-aggressive. When confirming our orders, I expressed genuine appreciation for accommodating the additional guests, yet the interaction felt uncomfortable. Starters arrived within 5–10 minutes. We had prawn and salmon cocktails that were drowned in seafood sauce, served with what I can only describe as wilted lettuce. The tomato soup was poorly presented, with soggy croutons and an overall messy appearance. Not a single spoon for the soups I had to ask at the bar. Four starters were sent back. Less than five minutes later, the mains arrived—far too quickly to have been freshly prepared. The food was cold and of extremely poor quality. The carrots were rock hard, the broccoli brown, sprouts mushy, and the roast potatoes were brown/grey inside when bitten into. The turkey was inedible—gritty, tough, and unpleasant enough that I spat it out after one bite. The Yorkshire pudding tasted more like a pancake, certainly not what you would expect when paying £69.99 per head. Service throughout was chaotic. Despite confirming dessert orders the day before and again on the day—twice with the chef—desserts arrived incorrect and disorganised. The food was absolutely vile, the service from both the chef and waiting staff was unacceptable, and our Christmas Day was completely ruined. Given that our bill exceeded £400, you would expect fresh produce, attentive service, and at least some effort with presentation. Instead, tables were dressed with plain white paper tablecloths and cheap crackers, and the Christmas decorations were minimal and uninspiring. There was nothing “magical” about the experience, despite how it was advertised. We will not be returning. We are now redoing our Christmas dinner this week, and even with premium meat and wine, we still didn’t reach £200. Corner House—do better.

   We returned to the town where we both grew up, over 40 years ago. So glad to see the pub thriving, to hear locals having enjoyable conversations together whilst enjoying great food and sampling the beer. Brilliant place. It always was and hope it will always be.

   Nice meal for the money. Great pizza considering the person making it had been there for 10 days! (A little less marinara and it would be bang on). Service could be more considerate in terms of bringing drinks to table while eating and adding extras. Tab would have been a good suggestion upfront.

   Beer was nice. Staff were lovely.nice welcoming place. The food wasn't anything special. microwaved curry and nan bread. Small portions and the fries as a side was 11 chips..for £2.95. Used to be good value for money, but not so now.I'd go for a drink but not for a meal.

   Haven’t been here for a quite a few years and the last few times all those years ago were not good experience so was surprised when my friend chose here for our yearly meal before Xmas. It was a pleasant surprise! The food was absolutely delicious and very well priced. It did take a little while to come out but we didn’t mind as was chatting anyway and it came out ready to eat so I was happy. The staff were attentive and friendly, we had 2 table service staff (sorry I didn’t get their names) that were lovely and Brian behind the bar was very helpful and welcoming. I will be visiting again and recommend here for a lovely meal :) thank you!

   We have visited a few times over the last few weeks. The service has been wonderful with smiling staff, always polite and helpful. The food has been amazing too. We've tried different meals and every one has been lovely. Highly recommended and we can't wait to visit again soon.
