Beautiful pub with a cosy atmosphere- wooden flooring and tastefully decorated. Friendly service from a well stocked bar- good tap selections. We enjoyed the fish and chips and the crispy chicken burger- delicious and at great prices. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend. There was plenty available parking nearby and it’s just a great little find.

First time back in ages as heard they got a new landlord. glad I popped in he’s a great bloke quick service and actually friendly with it. Place feels more settled now and nice to see a bit of change at the Lion and he seems to get on with the old boys. Food was good. its small but had enough people about to give it life and decent music. Good selection of drinks, warm pork scratchings were a nice touch and theres a decent outdoor area as well. Bit surprised how much difference a change can make mind. Ill be going back, would say give it a go now it’s in diferent hands.

Went there for the first time this Sunday and was welcomed by the locals like a long-lost relative. A lovely group of local customers, who greeted us with smiles, clearly pleased to see a new face (or maybe they just thought I looked like someone who’d buy the next round). Behind the taps was the new manager, Ben, who was not only super friendly but also clearly takes pint-pulling very seriously — a true professional in the noble art of beer delivery. There were 4 of us in our group, and we all tucked into the most delicious Sunday Roast. Now, I pride myself on my roast potatoes — they’ve won no awards, but they’ve caused at least one family argument over who gets the last one on Christmas Day. That said, the Golden's roasties were exactly that: crisp, golden, and bordering on potato perfection. I very nearly applauded. If I could offer one tiny suggestion (because I like to pretend I’m a food critic), it would be to add some mash alongside the generous helping of fresh veg. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our visit, and it was such good value - £67 all in for lunch and drinks. We’ll definitely be back — if not for the top-notch roast, then for the banter, beers and Ben.

What an amazing place. This is what traditional pubs should all look like. A really nice pint the staff are so friendly and smiling.

Easily the best pub in Penarth. Serving up a great variety of beers, friendly staff, and most of all a "proper pub" atmosphere without any tacky gimmicks - where you can simply go and enjoy a good quality pint with friends.

Haven’t been to the lion for a while. Thought We’d give it a go tonight. My partner ordered fish and chips, I ordered steak and onion sandwich with chips and onion rings. Partners fish wasn’t even cooked, my steak and onion sandwich was lovely. Chips were awful. They forgot my onion rings and then when they did bring them, was just a load of batter on the plate. Not sure whether they have a new cook in there, but tbh was the worst food we’ve had in a long time.

Lovely pub; delicious food with good sized portion (fish and chips was brilliant and great flavour), excellent friendly service from the staff, and well priced. Nice enclosed beer garden at the back. Highly recommended, we will return.
