I needed to replace the hardwood slats on a bench with cast iron ends for a customer. The 8 sapele slats arrived on time, were very well protected & I was pleased with the quality. The customer was delighted with the finished bench.
Product was good and looked good after a few coats of varnish to protect it. Delivery was good but packaging was flimsy and torn so bare wood was showing in places by the time that it was delivered.
Quick response to online order request. Queries addressed if needed via email. Few days to wait as expected for standard delivery. Excellent timber arrived fully packaged yet easy to unpack. Excellent hardwood timber quality made me feel like a proper carpenter. Pricing good. Grateful.

My requirement was for a quantity of European Oak to make a giant candlestick for the local church. The height of the candlestick being 1.2 metres. The candle stick to be made of a number of different turned parts, a cut list and drawings were supplied to Whitmore's for quotation. I had contact with Ashley and we discussed the requirement and options. On the day of delivery I was delighted to see the quality and quantity as extra length on several widths had been supplied. This gave me still further options. The project worked out well and the church delighted with their Pascal Candlestick. Whitmore's and Ashley went above and beyond and I would recommend them without question. Ian Cole
Clearly have alot of timber. But I think some of the staff have been hitting each other with it making them rude and Inept with their ability to communicate. Big busy place Clearly NOT for the general public. Better places to go that actually want your custom
Needed a small quantity of cedar shingles for a project. Helpful guy took the call and said yes come down and collect. 30 minute journey to be told by someone else that they don't have stock. Might want to introduce better systems of stock control that's visible to all staff. Shame as I believe they have a good reputation.
Highly recommended. I needed four 1.8m lengths of oak (so a really small order for a large timber merchants) planed to my bespoke dimensions. Elliot dealt with my enquiry in a fast and efficient manner and called me when it was ready to collect. The timber was spot on in all respects and the staff on collection were helpful. Hope to deal with them again in the future!
Good range of timber and fair prices but beware if you aren't trade. The office staff are always excellent but the staff who deal with customers whilst selecting wood are insufferably rude and dismissive. On more than one occasion I wondered if I was in the way and was about to leave when I was offered a crumb of comfort by being actually spoken to. I now avoid work which requires me to source materials from them as it is too trying on my patience to deal with the outside team. Maybe they view my orders as too small to warrant attention in which case don't allow in non account holders : such behaviour is unwarranted and insulting.
Avoid!!!, I ordered over £500 of Oak architrave for our hallway to be fitted by our joiner while away on holiday, on our return we are told that the wood is in a terrible state due to cutting! (saw blade ripples on all lengths) split wood and splinters all over, also items missing from order, I was called back as they were out of stock of the architrave but had skirting in stock and for more money would cut this to size. As we needed this urgently we agreed with Elliott as long as we could have the off cuts which was ok but these never arrived! after calling to complain today Richard told me he would just get my order to hand and call me straight back (9:30 AM) I had to call back at 3:50 PM to be told that due to not being reported as per their terms and conditions they are not willing to help me. Really disappointed with everything about my experience with this company and their lack of care about poor products and unhappy customers!
