A fascinating hidden gem in coventry , the star attraction is the tapestry but there is a lot to see. Its just down the side of the original cathedral, so dont miss it.
Helpful staff who give you information and historical facts. Most of the area is wheelchair friendly. Plenty to see.
A great venue for a wedding! We were the wedding DJs at St Marys Guildhall on Saturday for Marianne & Sam. Our rustic DJ booth looked right at home here and we had a great night! Big shout out to all the staff for being so helpful. We highly recommend!!
Wonderful visit, where learnt a lot about the guildhall's 700 year history and evolution between being the guild, government, Royal connections, soup kitchen, to World War II impacts. There is also historical artwork, architecture, and hands on kids activity to help them remain engaged. The signs are excellent throughout, with an additional option to use their included tablet guide. Volunteers are also very kind and informative. We spent about an hour in the ten rooms. Toilets near the front are also quite nice and clean.
St Mary’s Guildhall may be small, but it is full of beauty and intricate details. The highlight of our visit was the fantastic tour of the main hall and upstairs area. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about the stunning tapestry, stained glass, and hidden details we would have otherwise missed. We didn’t catch her name, but we truly appreciate her enthusiasm and expertise! There were also activities and dress-up options perfect for children, making it a great stop for families. We were fortunate to receive free entry through our stay at Coombe Abbey Hotel, which made the experience even better. A wonderful place to explore Coventry’s rich history—highly recommended!
Very clean place, recently completely redone, very well informed staff providing lots of information. But still, tickets are very expensive for such a smallish place. But it's definitely worth a visit.
What an amazing gem of history! It’s like traveling in time across 700 years since when Coventry first became an independent city and eventually the centre of power in England when Henry VI moved to the city during the War of the Roses. Fascinating place, very well kept and wonderful staff sharing their knowledge of history across every century.
Fantastic afternoon tea at St Mary's Guildhall - Tales of Tea. Spacious and very atmospheric in the crypt. Plenty of tables and very busy when we booked for Saturday 10th September 2022. The food is pricey, but well worth it as every item is handmade and exquisite. The service from the waitresses and the host was outstanding. If you wish to leave a tip do make sure it's in cash - otherwise the owners retain it. Last booking is 2.45pm most days but, hopefully, hours will be extended in the near future. Thank you very much to all the team for making this a really enjoyable experience.
Lovely (very) old building. First time back since we got married here - we heard the restoration project had been completed. Very good video tour with a tablet. There was so much I didn't know beforehand.
Recently reopened this medieval building built in 1342 is well worth a visit. It has been brilliantly restored. A cafe and tea room is due to open shortly.
