Very knowledgeable and helpful staff (they always are, but it felt like this branch more than others) and very good selection. Might find better prices elsewhere but talking around here is worth the extra ~£12-20 (or avoid the problem completely by buying an exclusive)
A fantastic whisky shop! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. It has a great selection of whisk(e)ys from around the world (and a surpisingly large selection of Japanese whiskys). Also loved that they sold tiny bottles of whisky, just what I needed to have a relaxing tipple in my hotel room after a busy day in Cardiff.
What can I say. The Whisky Shop Cardiff is quite simply the best whisky buying experience I have ever had. I spent years buying whisky from Amazon and supermarkets, before going into my first bottle shop. I frequented that shop for a few years but it closed. At which point I was a little lost. Then I discovered The Whisky Shop. It is incredible. All of the staff are fantastic. So knowledgeable and friendly. They always greet me with a smile and point me in the direction of new-in whiskies that they think I'll like. They always have samples I can try and the range of whiskies they have is amazing. The independent bottlings that The Whisky Shop offer are always fantastic. I have bought many and loved them all. If you become a member, for a small fee, you are invited to tastings in the store about once a month which are hosted by the staff and give you the chance to try some amazing whiskies (with a 20% discount on bottles tasted that night). You also accumulate points with every purchase you make, which you can redeem for vouchers off future purchases. So far I have saved hundreds off some amazing bottles. Also they host virtual tasting nights called Digital Drams, where, at a very reasonable cost, you receive several measures of whisky (and sometimes other spirits) directly to your door and you log on on a Thursday evening and learn from a representative of the relevant distillery all about the whisky and the distillery (history, distilling and bottling processes etc). To briefly sum up this review, I would say that if you want to learn about great whisky and experience top tier advice from wonderful people, whilst gaining access to whiskies that are available literally nowhere else, then you need to visit this wonderful shop. Also, every bottle you buy from your local bottle shop, is profit out of the pockets of the parasitic supermarkets and huge online retailers like Amazon. Thanks for reading this rather long and rambling account of my experience of The Whisky Shop Cardiff. I'm now going to return to my glass of scotch. And yes. I did buy it from The Whisky Shop! :-). A wonderful store! Full of fantastic selections of whiskey but if you are looking for bourbon. The selection is a little limited but still worth a visit.
That's a very solid whiskey shop by any standard! I was especially interested in them selling the Taiwanese Kavalan whiskey, but of course they also have a fantastic choice of Scottish and Irish whiskeys as well. Highly recommended for any whiskey lover!
