I’ve received my renewal notice for my home and contents insurance. Last years premium was £310.67 and the renewal premium is £802.16. This would mean that this years policy would go up nearly 3 times compared to last years policy. I phoned up Cornhill Direct and spoke to customer services. I asked if they could offer anything less than the new premium of £802.16, but I was told no they couldn’t do anything. The reason behind the increase of my policy was due to other people’s insurance claims and the ability to offer me the same amount of cover as last year. This was crazy because even car insurance companies can look through their systems and offer a better premium, or even match a company you have researched. I did find a new insurance for my home and contents that was even cheaper than last years premium. This new insurance company is a really good reputable company. I phoned Cornhill Direct to try to come to a compromise and see if they would look at reducing the new premium amount they quoted but they refused. I have been with Cornhill Direct for over 20 years and I’m quite disappointed and annoyed at their lack of interest in helping their customers. I won’t be surprised if a lot, a really lot of people cancelling their insurance and go with a new company. I’m really disappointed considering I’ve been with Cornhill Direct for over 20 years.
