We had dined at The Welsh House on the 06/12/2025. A week ago I sent a private review in response to requesting feedback about our evening - alas I have not heard back. So I thought it'd be best to write a public review and share my experience for others. I'm still horrified from how quickly the night went down hill. We were booked in for 6:30, and arrived on time, however, we were told our table was not ready. We thought it wouldn't be a long wait. We were updated half an hour later, that the group that were seated in the table we would be, were on desserts... We were not seated for maybe another 40 minutes or so. Since our wait was over an hour we were given a free round of drinks. We were seated somewhere around 8:00pm. We ordered our free drinks about 10 minutes after we were seated but all of drinks arrived at our table at about 8:30, the starters arrived not long after. Close to 9:00pm, but not everyone at our table were having starters. Dinner didn't arrive until 9:50. It was nearly 10 when people started eating. Party members who hadn't ordered a starter were waiting hungry for 3 hours. Honestly while it tasted pleasant, the wait time for the portion size felt disproportionate and not worth the price. (Again, especially for anybody who did not want a starter.) The desserts were the straw that broke the camel's back. Almost an hour later. I don't think I've ever wanted to try omelette with caramelized sugar on top, but that's what we received. As the event organizer, I was truly broken at that point and could only continuously apologize to my friends for what this night had been. We did complain there and then and had the desserts comped. In hindsight, the experience was not worth the money we had to pay. I held back a lot of frustration, but I should have aired I didn't want to pay for the night at all. This was supposed to be a lovely Christmas get together, it felt like a big joke by the end. Some of my friends had driven upwards of 4hr to be there. We had plans to enjoy the rest of the evening but since we left the establishment at past 11 o'clock. Most other bars and venues were closing, and our night was left feeling cut very short... I don't know what happened for it go the way it did, but upon reading other reviews from around the time we dined, it seemed there were quite a few parties with the same experience.

The food is fine. I got Lamb Cawl and Shepherd Pie, they are alright but tbh not really impressive. Or maybe i just expected too much. The staffs are nice but somehow the process here is too slow. I have to wait so long for the food coming up, could be up to 45’ for the food and 10’ for paying the bill. Possibly i wont come back even tho the staffs are supportive and nice.

This place was not great and did not meet our expectations at all. There was a pale with cleaning supplies right next to our booth, they were air fresheners around cause it was a bit smelly. The worst was right across from our booth. There was a garbage can where the staff go that was overflowing with garbage falling out onto the floor. Overall, it seemed like they did not really care that much. We had reservations and still waited 15 minutes before they even stopped by the table to take our drink order. It was not busy at all, there was no reason for delays and slow service. The waiter was OK, but again did not seem to care that much and seemed to have very little experience. There was a old candle on our table that they didn’t even carry a light for us. His service skills were weak at best. Friendly enough, but weak. There are plenty of places to go in the area, I would not recommend this place.

Maybe their meals are better but was disappointed with this experience. We came in because we wanted some brunch. It was just gone 11:30 and it states outside breakfast/brunch is served until 2 on Saturdays but once inside they said they were only doing lunch. We had already tried somewhere else but there had been no tables and so we just figured we would just go for it. Didn’t want loads so just got sandwiches. It was pretty quiet in there but still had a fair wait for just two sandwiches. And honestly it was not worth the wait. Bland pre grated cheddar and the ham in the other sandwich was not very nice. Absolutely not worth almost 9 quid. We couldn’t even finish them. The lady who took our orders was very pleasant though.

The roast beef with the bread was really good. We were taken aback by the fact that we could not ask to not be served parsnips or gravy because everything is apparently "pre-made" and that we could "just put them aside". The music was a little bit too loud.

Two starts is very generous of me. It took at least one hour for the good to be served (a salad & some chips, so nothing particular complicated. It took another 30 minutes for some bread which never materialised. I would certainly Not recommend

Had lunch today and was greeted by the lovely Isabelle who's service was amazing, she made us feel so welcome. The food was so tasty, definitely recommend the hot Welsh cakes as a starter! Will definitely be back again.

Friendly staff despite being very busy, Sunday roast very good quality, only misses 5/5 for me because they were out of the pork I was hoping for. The beef option still great with the best (optional) horseradish I've tried. Sticky toffee pudding was spot on. Drinks on tap very limited but I was happy with Guinness and they had a decent wine/cocktail menu if that's what you're after. So in short, would recommend and visit again.

Just had a wonderful afternoon in the Welsh House, the food was of a very good standard, plenty of choice and well priced. The atmosphere was a cross between restaurant and bar, very relaxing and welcoming. We were attended to by the lovely Isabell who made us feel welcome. Would highly recommend and will definitely come here again.
