Unfortunately I have nothing positive to reflect on my attempted visit this evening to Pizza Express in Bedford Street. I have used this restaurant for many, many years and have nothing but the highest regard for the food, its staff and the unique atmosphere it conjures. Tonight I was confronted by a member of staff with an attitude I have never had to endure before. I arrived just before 9.30 and was greeted by a member of staff and informed that the restaurant was closed. I pointed out that it was just before the official closing time and she asked for another member of staff to come and deal with me. I informed him that I had arrived just before 9.30 and he said in a less than hospitable manner that I should leave. I asked him for his name and he said it was Benito!! I surmise that working in a pizza restaurant has gone to his head. He again asked me to leave and said in a very sarcastic tone “Have a great night and a very happy Christmas to you.” At this I came back over the threshold and he put his hand to my shoulder and I said “Don’t touch me”. It was very petty I concede but I was annoyed at how abruptly he had treated me from the outset. He called a work colleague to come and remove me. Totally bizarre behaviour but he told me he didn’t like my tone. I explained to him that I’d only asked him for his name. He threatened to call the police which to be honest I’d of had no problem with!! I decided to leave at that stage as the whole incident was bewildering. How could someone who is obviously hugely inept be given the role of front of house and manager for such a well established and successful company. Utterly disgraceful to be treated in this manner by someone so junior.

I visited the restaurant with my meet-up group for a pizza-making workshop and had a great afternoon! The upstairs space was ideal for doing this, away from the main restaurant for privacy and Benito was a great host and instructor. Very enjoyable overall.

The food itself was lovely, but the service really let the experience down. Despite the restaurant not being busy, staff stood around chatting while our starter plates sat on the table for 35 minutes before being cleared. The wait for everything was far too long, and it felt like the team simply failed to deliver even the basics of attentive service. A real shame, because the kitchen clearly does its job well but the front-of-house staff need serious improvement.

What’s the worst thing about Pizza express? The name! It doesn’t do the place justice, the pizza’s are a step above the average and the service was excellent too. I was we served by a charming lady of Pakistani origin that couldn’t have been more helpful or positive, really very good. Pizza was top notch delcicous, the wine sublime, what more can one ask for, really? No, it's not the cheapest meal for one but it was Good, really good! Slainte!

As consistent and tasty as Pizza Express always is! Staff handled some very difficult St Patrick’s Day customers very well, the manager and one of the Male servers handled an aggressive and drunk customer well getting him out before peoples evenings were ruined completely. Props to them both!

The quality price of carbonara on my point of view wasn't good. Next time I'll try the pizza and eventually modify the rating. The service was fast and friendly

Really enjoyed this place! Excellent for food sensitivities (truly excellent, with an easy allergen menu and competent staff who genuinely seem to care about getting it right). Servers were great with kids, and meals and drinks were all better than expected. Even the picky eaters downed it all!

First time at this Pizza Express, me and my wife had a great time. It was busy because of a concert, but Chris our waiter went out off his way to get us a table. He also kept making sure we were well taken care off, all while having a laugh. Food certainly filled a hole but the service was amazing! Thanks again Chris, will definitely be back!

Pizza was good. Not as nice this time around, have been a few times but this wasn’t as good as others. Also asked for the red berry and white chocolate cheesecake to go since it was near closing, rushed home because of the icecream scoop only to find there was so red berry sauce on the white chocolate cheesecake. Was quite disappointed, not the same without it wouldn’t have gotten the cheesecake otherwise. Staff was friendly though and helpful
