A local favourite! A traditional pub in the heart of the village, offering a warm welcome, a great atmosphere and fantastic food and drinks (fish & chip Friday is wonderful, with a gluten free option!). Super dog friendly too. Good to know before you go: it's an old building and that's part of the charm, but expect steps to the loos and a lowish beam on the way to the bar. It's on street parking, and as it's a moorland village, you won't find street lights, so if you're travelling to or from here in the dark, bring a torch!

Another superb Sunday lunch. The roast beef was some of the best I’ve ever had, washed down with an excellent Malbec. Lovely atmosphere in a genuine village pub in the Dartmoor National Park.

Absolute gem of a village pub and well worth supporting. The Ploughman's lunch was great value and we sat outside, celebrating Father's Day and my Grandfather's 90th birthday.

Booked a table for 4 for Sunday lunch via messenger, first time eating out for nearly 3 years, very friendly & welcoming hosts, they chose us the perfect table. We all ordered the roast & it was well worth the wait, freshly cooked & plenty, no room for puddings much to some's disappointment! Great value for money. We will certainly be revisiting. Thank you Richard & Yvonne, see you soon.

We're staying in Haytor, wanted an evening meal and found Carpenters by accident. Nice friendly pub with good food, and quite large portions. So worth seeking out

A lovely little pub, very friendly, cosy with great food. We stay at the IIlsingon Hotel a few times a year and always book a table at the Carpenters Arms. The food is amazing with some good vegan options, they do lovely beer and wine and last time we stayed the log burner was on and it was toasty!! There is generally some funky music playing too!! We are so pleased we found this little gem

Great Sunday lunch in the lovely village pub in Ilsington. Nice hosts, great menu, roast beef, turkey, pork, nut roast lunches. Other choices on the menu. Dessert menu includes old favourites including spotted duck and custard. Good local beers on tap.

Chose the Carps for a family celebration meal and they didn't disappoint. The roasted ham hock was perfect and a few older family members commented on how good the roasties were (almost as good as Granny's, said one!) Great atmosphere and lovely hosts too as ever. Thank you Yvonne and Richard!
