I really liked it, but I didn't think i would. It felt like stepping into a vaguely faulty towers like living history experience. Set in its Georgian cottage with its 90s take on victorian country house decore. I presume it was restaurant in its day with optics of spirits and dining rooms layed out for evenings of prawn cocktails and steak dianes. The place hasnt changed in years, and the lady who runs it clearly lives and works in the house. But the tea and cakes were delicious. Fairly priced and honest! It's not Costa coffee because it's not trying to be! The panini and cream tea on the other table looked delicious. Our tea came in a pot with extra hot water, good tea bags, and lots of milk. The cakes were lovely and very well baked, presumably on site! Really was surprised. Don't judge this book by its covers, it's really nice.

Very disappointed. The Staff at Compton Castle recommended going over for a drink and something to eat. We wish we hadn't....... There was no warm welcome when we entered the Property. We ordered a Hot Chocolate and a Latte. The Lady told us which room was warmer as the heating was on. This room was next to the Toilet which had an awful smell coming from it. The room was dull and lifeless. After a bit of a wait the drinks arrived...... The Chocolate was nothing special. The sugar was hard inside the packet. The Latte was the worst one we'd ever had. Hardly any head of milk and the milk was burnt making it undrinkable. We told the Lady and she didn't seem to believe us but did say she would make another. This arrived just with a cup but no saucer. No real apologies and no Customer care by coming back and asking if everything was okay. Will bring our own drinks next time we go to the Castle.

Enjoyed an absolutely delicious Devon cream tea here on a rainy afternoon (would have been lovely to sit out in the garden on a sunny day). Good, friendly service too. This place is perfect for refreshments or something more substantial if you're visiting the NT's Compton Castle, which is just over the lane and doesn't have a tea shop or kiosk. It is old fashioned inside but don't let that put you off!

Wonderful family run tea room / cafe set in a beautiful setting, with lovely gardens & outside seating overlooking the woods and countryside around Compton Castle. The cakes and drinks were perfect on our visit, the people serving were friendly & welcoming and the interior was a traditional English tea room decor, timeless and charming in it's own unique way. Recommended to call in at especially if visiting Compton Castle across the road.

Delightful afternoon at Castle Barton Restaurant. A quirky 'grandma's dining room' vibe and delicious food at a very reasonable price. Will be heading back there very shortly to enjoy another chocolate roulade with real clotted cream, though the brie & tomato brushetta and game pie were just as good!
