    I had the misfortune to drop into Scholars & Scoundrels recently to get a haircut. There was one customer waiting, and as I was about to sit down, I was asked: "Do you have an appointment?" I was a bit taken aback, as I've never made an appointment at a barber's in my 40-plus years. They were, I was told, all booked up for the afternoon. If that's the way you choose to operate, then fair enough. What isn't fair enough is the comment one of the other barbers made to a customer whose hair he was cutting. As I was standing there, he said to the customer about me: "These people think they can just walk in off the street without an appointment." This is an absolutely incredible way to treat a prospective customer. Perhaps you should take a look outside your front door and recognise you're in Donegall Street in Belfast -- wind your neck in. You need to acknowledge how reprehensible it is to belittle and embarrass someone in this way. If this is how you treat someone looking to give you money, then "these people" will never be back -- so why don't you pop that into your appointments book as a valuable customer service reminder.
