I've read over a number of years how bad the quality of service is at Kings Mill Hospital which has had some dreadful reviews over the years. I've been fortunate enough to have private healthcare through work and have always elected to use The Park for a couple of minor surgeries but recently had a total knee replacement performed at Kings Mill. I didn't get a choice unlike some people and I was a little anxious at the quality of care I might receive. I arrived early on the morning of surgery to be met with some very pleasant and calming members of staff who settled me in to a private side room and explained the process. I was down for afternoon surgery but unexpectedly was collected at 11 which was a bit of a rush, and before I knew it I was undressed, in my gown and dashed down to the theatre by a lovely nurse and porter. The treatment down there was exemplary and if I had any concerns they just faded away. The anaesthetists were also exceptional, joking and laughing with me and just removing any fear about what was about to happen - this was my first time in hospital for major surgery in 65 years. They gave me something to "relax" me and before I knew it I was being wheeled back out. The post -op team were equally good and with 15-20 mins I was being taken back to the ward. After a short stay in my private room I was taken to a small ward with two other guys as they needed my room for a female patient and I guess they try to avoid mixed sex wards where possible. Unfortunately my plan to leave same day was scuppered as they couldn't quite get on top of my pain relief regime, and I ended up spending two nights in there. Throughout that time I found the care to be the best that I could have imagined except for an overnight visit from a rather dismissive "surgeon" who was allegedly reported for his attitude the next morning by the lead nurse who took over my care. I even had a hug from one of the night nurses apologising that they could not have intervened more. Although I can't see myself volunteering to have my other knee replaced any time soon, I definitely would have no issues going to Kings Mill again and I want to thank everyone in Ward 14b for looking after me during my short stay.

Considering the amount of pressure this hospital is under, the level care they provide is excellent. I had a bed on a ward within 12 hours of presenting to a&e, and surgery within 24 hours for removal of an imflammed appendix. Josh my surgeon, Fiona the anaethestist, the theatre staff Shelly, Mukesh, Kim, liz in recovery, and Diane T on DAU you are an asset to the hospital. The consultant Elizabeth Gemmill, your knowledge and reassurance is second to none, thank you for explaining everything thoroughly Experiences like this remind me how lucky and greatful I am for the NHS and the hard working staff. Thank you so much. Emily

My husband had to visit emergency care yesterday(Friday 22nd.Nov),he had slashed his hand badly whilst we on holiday in caravan. We went to Emergency and altho.they were very busy,we were dealt with at reception by a very polite and efficient young lady, who found my husband's details very promptly. Within half an hour he was seen by a doctor, sorted out, stitched up and we were on our way back.We would like to send a compliment to a Doctor Ko. Thank goodness for the NHS.

The friendly medical staff, although it took 13 hours to get from the emergency room to my ward, finally I received a proper medical plan. This was my first time being hospitalized. The hospital meals were self-selected, and they even had ice cream for dinner. When I was feeling down in the hospital, the ice cream cheered me up a bit.

I had to go to Kings Mill Hospital last year. First to Gynecology and also to Urology I am 78yrs old and obviously like most people didnt really want to be there.. however, i cannot stress how amazing everyone was. I am sure they must all be hand picked for kindness, helpfulness, care and in their sensitivity when examinations have to be done. I just can't speak more highly of them. I certainly wouldn't be apprehensive about going again. Thank you to all concerned.

Honestly Chloe michelle Judith Lisa and Kerry on ward 33 if you ever have to go in on that ward you want to hope and wish you get them looking after you, some experience has not been great but let me tell you they are absolutely amazing nothing is too much trouble nothing to much of an issue and always wanting to do what they can to help not just our mum on end of life but also for us and let me tell you not all the staff are like this so they need a medal a true example to what your hospital needs and believe me you do not want to loose these fantastic people, they are truly the essence of the word care and compassion and can seriously tell they love helping and and there jobs! They even made our Valentine’s Day as we could not get out because of the fear of leaving our mother ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Took a while for me to post. I can’t thank the team enough on ward 36 for all their work. My Aunt was on end of life care. The staff on shift was so caring, helpful and understanding. Thank you so much for the staff on duty who gave hugs to my family when my Aunt passed away. Thank you for making her end of life care comfortable. You are forever in our hearts Xx

My mum who is 101 was first on a&e and then admitted to a ward, the care was second to none. We were seen quickly and the care we received was amazing. They did everything they could to make mum comfortable and deal with her health issues.

The Old Lady Receptionist treated us quiet cold and really disappointed with it. It was having a heavy rain yesterday whole afternoon and night and arrived at the hospital nearly 7pm asking politely where is the Covid Vaccine Area, she sent us out and said we have to take right and walk all along the back and look for the white building, since it’s our first time in a very big hospital and walking in heavy rain and wind we had difficulties finding the white building (not enough sign thou around the area) we arrived at the vaccination place soaking wet and cold! And found out it was on the left side of the main building just few minutes walk from the receptionist area! You can also access the vaccination area from inside the building in short walk! What a disgusting cold attitude she has, all I can say is if you are tired from your work go home and retired! She didn’t even think about others. Apart from that, the nurses in vaccination area are all lovely and very friendly
