Great value accommodation within walking distance of boucher playing fields..great for concerts..beds were camp beds but for £60 a night on a Saturday it was worth it..
My husband and I lived in a studio apartment. Couldn't have asked for a better location and price in an unknown City. Also seeing many students around just like yourself is a big plus to adjust to being away from home specially for youngsters. The rooms are understandably small but you adjust to it very soon. What matters is the convenience of living in the heart of the City and safety! An year will go by so fast and before you know you'll be house hunting. The maintenance service is exceptional too.
Had a short stay here in August before term time.For £45 a night it's good value in comparison to accomodation options in Belfast. The apartment is small but modern & nice & clean.Insulation is good too.You get towels & shampoo & soap.Next door we could use a communal kitchen with free tea & coffee & social areas. There's free wi-fi too. Pete who checked us in late at night provides a really friendly & professional service.
Even though on the website Queen's accomodation offers various possiblilities including studios, in reality as an international student, you have no say in choosing the specific type of room (no matter how soon you apply or how much in advance you communicate with them). They will just put you to ELM BT9 standard room without toilet, shared space and bathroom with 10 other people for approx 490 pounds per month. Also, they let me know this decision 2 weeks before my arrival, on Saturday morning with 48 hours to take or refuse the offer - meaning, that on Monday 10am my offer was already gone.
If you get assigned to #12 College Gardens, run the other way. There is a Creche on the first floor and week days the screaming kids can be heard in all the rooms. Despite numerous complaints over the years the accomodation office has refused to sound proof the rooms. You can also hear your neighbors like they are in your room.
Staff are rude and seem to forget that the students are paying customers, rooms are apparently charged by the square footage but standard single rooms are the same size as premium single rooms yet they charge £20 a week more for them, laundry room was only meant to be out of service for 2 days today is day 3 still looks like a building site no updates from the accommodation team looks like it will take the rest of the week from the looks of the current state of the room.
With the amount of money you're spending for this accommodation you could just get an apartment of your own. The facilities are so bad such as the electrical sockets can only supply electrical devices that are only up to a 1000 watts and the sockets in the kitchen go off quite easily as well! There isn't enough storage space for the whole floor as there's only 2 fridges with 11 people sharing. Also the wifi is so bad on the weekdays, sometimes i have to watch youtube videos on 240 or 360p. But the worst thing about this accommodation is they have set a timer on your heater, meaning that the heat will only be turned on at a particular time. Most of the time it just freezing in the room and there's nothing you can do about it. WORST ACCOMMODATION EVER (according to the amount of money we are paying)
