   We did this as a 60th birthday present and really enjoyed the experience of making jewellery with Vicki at Bigbury Mint. Vicki was very patient and very supportive throughout the process, it felt like we were with a friend as she even makes sure there is time for a cuppa inbetween. You start with an offcut of silver to test techniques, then go on to make a copper ring before your silver ring, so plenty of practice time, which meant our end results were pretty spectacular (well we think so!).

Cleaned and re-mounted with a copy replacement KG VI DCM provided saw excellent service from Bigbury Mint with a special thanks to all but especially Sam Amor.    I have dealt with this company maybe 3 or 4 times over the last 8 years. Last week I made an urgent request for 2 replica medals for a funeral between Xmas and New Year. Although it had passe their cut-off date for Xmas, they promised to do their best. Medals arrived 5 days later. Superb service, thank you.

   My NI medal was looking worse for wear so I decided to replace it. I couldn’t go via the MOD as I still have the medal and they required a crime number if stolen. I therefore ordered from Bigbury Mint. Delivery was quick enough. Unfortunately the detail is nowhere near as sharp as the original and it is also stamped ‘copy’. The idea was to mount this with my other medals but I’ll now be using the original one. I checked the website and as far as I can see, there is no mention of medal being stamped ‘copy’.

   For years I was trying to find a good place to get a copy my great grandads medals he fought with the Royal Munster fusiliers during the First World War. The original medals are in the family but no one ever sees them. Being a service man myself with Irish Naval Service I know how important it is to keep medals within the family and let other members see them. When I was Googling for a place to get a set of medals I came across the Bigbury Mint I did a bit of investigation into the mint and when I say the positive reviews I decided to put in my order and I am so glad I did. The medals arrived this morning and I couldn’t be any happier with them they’ll be going on display for my family to see and worn at commemorative events.
