This towpath offers a pleasant walk or cycle alongside the River Lagan and canal from the Stranmillis area to Shaw's Bridge or vice versa. The towpath is suitable for all mobility levels because it is flat with the exception of one small bridge at the Shaw's Bridge end of the path. The path is well used even midweek by walkers, dog walkers and cyclists. There is plentiful signage, too. Some nice wildlife paintings can be seen near to Stranmillis. Pleasantly, there was little litter and dog mess to be seen on the day of our visit. Free car parking can be found at Shaw's Bridge. If you like wildlife, it may be possible to see Kingfishers, Grey Wagtails, Blue Tits, Pied Wagtails, Moorhens, Mallards etc along the way. Overall, it was a pleasant experience on the edge of the city.

Nice walk today, Lagan Towpath from Stranmillis parking in Cutters Wharf car park. Missed a few Finches at the car park but there's always more this time of year.

Nice and quiet walk if you go early on a Sunday morning. There are plenty of sign posts and markers along the way. Some parts of the path are slightly narrow. Just be careful of the numerous cyclists

Beautiful scenery, my 12 year old son and I had a 5k jog along the embankment in the evening and it was lovely, peaceful atmosphere and serenely quiet we'll definitely be back.

The Lagan Path renewed in 2021 and they did a great job by connecting the Stranmillis area with the other side of the city from behind. It is also a beautiful area for walks and to enjoy nature, birdsong, different kind of plants and river wild life. Just wish more people would respect this little paradise, not leave litter , destroy benches. It's a shared space for all. No charge in but needs to be protected and looked after. Note : The Lagan Towpath takes the walker along the river and canal system through a variety of wetland, riverside meadows and mixed woodland from Belfast to Lisburn.
