What I found hilarious was that my partner and I were watching rugby on Saturday evening, and someone made a potentially racist comment toward me. I didnβt pick up on it, but my partner did. Then my partner and I were both checked out of the pub, but the person who made the comment wasnβt. Interesting situation!

Great Sunday lunch food and good value, but the welcome and atmosphere really let the visit down. We visited The Royal Oak in Porthcawl as a table of six for Sunday lunch and it was quite an unusual experience. The atmosphere when we arrived felt unwelcoming, staff seemed rushed and uninterested, and we werenβt shown to a table, just told a number and βzoneβ, which was confusing as first-time visitors. The room was cramped with a wobbly table and there was no music or background sound, so it all felt a bit uncomfortable. We also had a waitress shouting across the restaurant a few times, which added to the awkward tone. The big positive was the food, when it arrived it was very good. Homemade, generous portions and really good value for money. Itβs a shame because the kitchen clearly delivers, but the service and atmosphere didnβt match the quality of the meal. It may have been a one-off, but the first impression definitely set the tone.

Came in for an evening meal. Service was good and even though hadn't booked were given a table quickly. Food options were very good as were drinks and when the food arrived it was amazing. Mega Mixed Grill was very good value especially on grill Tuesday with money off. Would recommend for an evening meal.

Great menu with loads of choice. Very cheap and the food was excellent, there are home cooked options on the menu too. I had the homemade Corned Beef pie with boiled potatoes and gravy, which was delicious. My mate had the curry half and half, which was also delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the pub had a good local feel to it. Have eaten here once before and will definitely return again.

Nice old style pub with excellent deals and great service. Lots of little nooks to sit in. These 4 meals with 2 pints of beer and 2 soft drinks was around Β£52.

Brilliant. Hidden little gem. I came down to the area for a visit for family and discovered this little gem. The food was awesome. We came practically every day. Lunch time is less busy but if you want to go for dinner reserve a table in advance. As it's so packed. Steak will keep me coming back no doubt about it.

I came here as spur of the moment and I was not disappointed. Food is very fairly priced and large portions. I had small cod and chips and the cod was the length of the plate! Lovely staff and I really enjoyed the atmosphere there. Thank you! :)
