Best fish & chips in Swansea, light crispy batter, lovely white cod and quality potatoes used to make their delicious chips. My husband enjoys their irish curry sauce

ChipAdviser here! Headline - CASH ONLY. Huge portions, great chips, lovely fish. What a chippy! It seems daft that I don't visit more often since they're less than 10 minutes up the road from me but with Hiks and several others nearby it's easy to be lazy chip connoisseur where I live. I had a night to myself a few weeks ago and thought I'd continue the fish and chips adventure with a lesser visited chip shop and I was not disappointed. As per the headline, these guys are generous. When it came to serving my freshly made cod and chips I thought they were dispensing for someone else because their small chips is bigger than most chips shops large. THAT'S how generous they are. I opted for a large fish because I was unsure of their portion sizes and I was greeted with a whale, their large fish was as long as the big chippy boxes you get and a chunky piece of cod at that, I was bowled over, and all this for £11.50. The smaller fish would have probably done me fine and I'd have gone away for just over £10 which is towards the cheaper end of f&c prices locally. Check out my photos, when I got home I served up a big plate and had a good meals worth spare for the next day - astonishing. Anyway, details. The chips I'd liken to those at Monni's on Brynymor road. Well cooked, with those slightly browned edges and texture which bring all the flavour. Nice crispness, good fluffy potato inside and not a hint of sogginess. They soaked up the salt and vinegar well and were a delight to eat. Fish wise, nice crispy batter with a good flavour, slight bubbly texture but not overpowering. You know you find some chip shops can disguise a tiny fish in a thick layer of batter - not here! It was just right without being greasy or overpowering the fish. I'm definitely going again, and my local - Eaton road chippy, will have to miss out on my custom a little more! The only hole I could pick was that they'd just made more chips and their backroom could have done with a sweep and a mop, but to be fair they were very busy and it's not always practical to stay perfectly on top of the minor details. Otherwise, very smartly presented chip shop. Shiny and clean. In a nutshell, Penderry chippy is 100% worth taking a detour for. Overall, got to be a high 8, maybe even a 9 from me.
