I visited The Rake and Riddle specifically The Welsh House. The positives are, the waitressing staff were lovely and did what they could to help in the situation they have been put in by management and kitchen. Onto the negatives; half of the food was unavailable on the menu, the things people actually come here for which I found it ridiculous, the menu might as well have been decorative art. Also to mention after finally finding something that is available it took an hour for it to arrive… it came out cold!! The bar had some good options but yet again the options were met with the new moto, “sorry, we don’t have that”, which was very disappointing as we couldn’t enjoy a classic Madri or a draught of the local Gower Gold. A ONCE in a lifetime experience

Had a lovely Sunday roast, beef was tasty and not chewy. Gravy was divine and the veg was perfect. Only complaint was a low hanging light getting in the waiters way at the end of the table.

Updated - I emailed as the reply below from rake and riddle told me to and had no reply........ typical..... I cant reply so updated here.... Also 1700 reviews. Most of them are previous owners and venue. Some lovely parts to the meal, especially the salmon fishcake, cockle and leek sauce and the crème brûlée, but too many issues with food, service and atmosphere for the price. We visited The Welsh House for a rare monthly date night and it ended up being quite a mixed experience. There were definitely positives: the salmon fishcake with cockle and leek sauce was delicious, and the crème brûlée at the end was excellent. We shared our concerns with the team and they kindly offered us a drink each on the house, which we appreciated but also took around 15 minutes or longer and obly mentioned they would be on the house when she realised they had not arrived yet tol. But even with that, paying almost £80 for two meals and just one soft drink, we both felt there are better places we would choose next time. A number of things let the visit down. The creamy garlic mushrooms were very sparse on sauce, mostly soaked up into the bread before they even reached the table. After starters there was a 30 minute wait for mains, even though the restaurant only had three or four other tables occupied. We were also sat right next to a group of six with bags on chairs, even though around ten other tables were empty all night, and the table next to us was left uncleared for almost an hour with staff walking past it repeatedly. The biggest disappointment was the recommended signature dish, the chicken supreme. It looked the part but the mash was hard in general and not creamy as described, nothing anywhere near, almost like thick potato wedges, and very bland. The sauce was tasty but arrived colder than the plate. For an £18–£19 dish it felt more like chicken, mash and a nice sauce rather than something special. Both plates had the same issues, which was worrying. They did offer to replace them, but with a babysitter and time ticking on our monthly date night, we couldn’t wait another full service time and we were very hungry by this point. Extra hot sauce was brought, but even that took 5–6 minutes. Dessert lifted things again with a really lovely crème brûlée, but the mini Welsh cakes that came with it were a big let down — fridge cold, doughy and bland. As a Welsh family (with a Welsh-cake-loving wife!) it felt sad that this classic local treat wasn’t represented well. Honestly, the £1 pack from Tesco around the corner would have been better. The staff were apologetic and tried, but overall the long waits, seating choices, food issues and slow service made it a disappointing date night. With the price point and so many great places nearby, we’re unlikely to return.

We visited the Cattle and Co part of the restaurant. It was a Tuesday night and that might be part of the reason for the rating. I would say the photos say it all . You have to make your own mind up but without going into details there are definitely better places to go for a good burger. Bear in mind - it is not cheap either.

Had a fantastic afternoon tea here yesterday. From the time we walked in to the time we left the staff were excellent. A lovely array of sandwiches to meet all our dietary needs, savoury nibbles, scones with cream and jam and delicious selection of cakes to finish. It was stunning and beautifully presented . Value for money ,definitely recommend and will come back again . Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Shame I can’t post a picture of it

Food was cooked perfectly, had the sirloin and asked for medium rare and they couldn't have cooked it more perfect, rest of the food was great and plenty of flavour. My only disapproval was there was way too much food, but definitely worth it. Would absolutely recommend going there as there are a variety of different foods and is great for kids with a play area outside.

Excellent food and even better service. We were a table of 11, all meals arrived approximately the same time everything cooked perfectly and very tasty. We had one slight issue which was solved immediately. Couldn’t ask for better customer service Thanks

Pleasantly surprised. Walked in an had immediate "chain" vibes. TVs everywhere, table numbers, decor etc all screamed chain, however the food and service was very good. The salmon and pie was high standard. The brownie for dessert was delicious. Loved that they were using local businesses also. Definitely recommend.
