Fascinating old world pub. A propper drinkers pub. Great pint of Bass and Wainright Gold. Lots of different rooms for Supping in, or to have a natter.
Old British pub with a low roof. Not too much choice of IPAs on tap. More for the elderly crowd in my opinion. Easy place to grab a pint and have a chat. Service was fast and bartender was chatty with us which is always a bonus. Good location too.
Boothroyd agrees that this a good place for an old King to drink. Surprisingly large pub with a rear patio. Boothroyd decided on a pint of draught Bass. Very good traditional ale. Sat in the strand twixt bar and garden, close to the Throne Room. Enjoyed the music.
What a lovely old pub! Had the amazing Sunday dinner, friendly staff and a perfect finish to a Sunday afternoon with the family. Will definitely be back for more :-)
Superb friendly" Old style" town pub with great food, service and exceptional value for money.
Appalling…. staff which made us feel very uncomfortable as the two of them blatantly sat there and watched us eating our food while talking about us in the distance. Greasy shepards pie and I had a sharp hard stem that I cut my mouth on. The grease from the food made me feel so bloated afterwards to the point where it was a struggle to walk back to my car. Afterward I finished my meal, the staff never came to the table as we patiently waited for a desert as I mentioned to them that I wanted one, it was clear that they just wanted us to get up and leave. They are two faced and the pub is only popular because it’s ran by women walking around in tight sports wear. Don’t know where all of the good reviews come from, never again!
Excellent value for money. Just had lunch here - steak pie and gammon for £7 each. Staff were very friendly and gave our dog some chicken as well. Would recommend
Great food amazing value. If you get the chance pop in, many local ales and great atmosphere
