There is a reason why I have been overlooking this restaurant. Service is quite slow, although friendly. Both the kitchen and dining area seem understaffed. We spent about three hours set for a quite simple lunch. The food is not bad, but ordinary. Chorizo tastes nice despite being soaked in oil. The white bread doesn’t look appealing, but at least it is slightly warm. The homemade (can never resist this word) fish cake has a mixture of white fish and salmon, with an ample amount of dill. I didn’t expect it to be a wow anyways. Everything is properly done, including the poached egg. Shallot and Brie gnocchi has more cream than cheese. It feels too heavy for me. A Mac and Cheese would have been lighter. The gnocchi is nicely cooked though. The pork belly comes with a piece of potato that really resembles pork :> the sweet sour mustard sauce is quite lovely. The pork is a little dry but still fine with the sauce. The skin is very hard to cut, but I still enjoyed crushing them with my teeth. You’ll need patience and good companion to dine here, and it can be hot in summer.

Service is not best but I think its because they just had 1 waiter. We arrived and no-one was there. A bit of waiting between dishes. Food was ok but not outstanding. Prawns in cheese was bad, don't order it.

One of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge. Great location - in the front of the Kings College Chapel and around the corner from the Market Square. Good choice of food and wine. Always friendly service and cozy atmosphere.

Beautiful setting in Cambridge centre. Delicious food - recommend the vegan burger and pea and shallot gnocchi. Good cocktails too. All served by friendly staff.

Great food, the patatas bravas, calamari and mussels were good. We also had the chilli linguine but it was a bit bland for my taste.

High quality, well presented food with excellent service. Visited yesterday with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience at The Senate. From the beautiful setting across from St Mary's church to the wonderful service from all the staff. It was complimented with delicious food for all my party from all courses. I would highly recommend a visit and will look to return in the future.

The Bistro is located outside St. Mary's Church and sitting outside watching time go by is really pleasant. The food was delicious and full of flavour. The staff were very professional, accommodating and adhering to Government guidelines. The only critique i would say is that it took quite some time for the food to arrive, but otherwise all fine.

Beautiful, satisfying and delicious comfort food and friendly staff. What more could you ask for? The service is efficient but not pushy. The prices are on the higher side but well worth it and no more expensive than the average prices anyway. There are choices for veggies too. I took the mushroom gnocchi with red pesto and cream sauce topped with parmesan and it was gorgeous.
