I have to say I was so scared to be admitted to B&H as it was 3 hours away from where I lived and I had been in general a month prior to that, where some scary stuff happened. But my fears soon cleared when I realised how lovely the staff were. It was very hard but the other kids welcomed me with open arms and I made life long friends. Staff always take you to a private room and sit to talk to you if you need it. This place made my bad situation a little bit brighter. Thank you to all staff at B&H. :) xx

I was discharged from Brighton + Hove Clinic last year, ending a long hospital admission. My primary reason for writing this review was to express concern at the quality of care in B+H clinic. Initially, I was very pleased to have come to what was described as a calm and therapeutic environment. Hospitals have their ups and downs and I appreciate that entirely, having been a patient across several. However, the failings of the management team to address and mitigate against the lack of training, inadequate treatment and organisational difficulties consistent throughout my time there were absolutely unacceptable. On being vocal about my complaints, I was pushed into insecurity and self-doubt by the response of management and key staff: I felt coerced and manipulated by people who were supposed to be caring for me. Attitudes towards my concerns and anxieties- for example, the staff not knowing which patients were going on leave, missing medication, the lack of meal support for patients who needed it, the constant cutting of crucial staff numbers which resulted in the few nurses being extremely stressed and therefore providing lower quality of care- bordered on denial and dismissal. I hope that this review will prompt a careful review of the care in B&H clinic: at times, I felt there was a serious risk to my and other patients’ wellbeing due to the poor treatment of incidents and other patients’ needs. This is a view that is shared by many of the patients I was admitted with: please listen. I am equally eternally grateful to the few incredible staff members who supported me through my journey in B&H. You all deserve the absolute world and I am so thankful to have met you. I was able to meet incredible agency and permanent members who tried their best to support me despite the lack of resources and inadequate staff numbers. Big thank you to school; you guys absolutely rock. My academic ambitions and trials were supported throughout my time in B&H; thank you so much for instilling confidence and a greater appreciation for learning in me.

I was here from December last year to March this year, I don’t have a bad thing to say about it at all. I have autism so it takes me longer to process stuff and requires more support, which was given to me. The staff are so sweet and listen to you which a lot of places won’t. so ty

i was here for 5 months at the beginning of this year. i came in absolutely terrified because i was so young and had never been inpatient before. the admission process was far from great (in my experience) and i was left waiting in my bedroom (which patients are NOT allowed in during the day) for around 2 hours before my mum went and had a word with the ward manager. settling in was very difficult because the staff often ‘forgot’ me, it was the other young people on the ward who reminded them i was there and i needed to be shown around, be given menus etc etc. staff were also very bad at giving me induction. i relied on the other patients to teach me about the routine and rules etc. however, all the staff were absolutely amazing, 99% of them have patients best interests at heart and will fight for you to have a voice in your care and compromise with you. of course there were some rude and less trained staff and agency staff were required every day and night because of shortages and respectfully, they were hopeless at dealing with mentally ill youth with eds. the best care i had was from my mdt team, my consultant (kris) was an absolute gem who allowed for me to have local leave within the first month of me being there and always put his trust in me which helped me feel so appreciated especially as i was under section and having professionals actually trust you in those circumstances is so rare and humanising. my therapist (tasha how i love you) was a lifesaver. i would not have been discharged if it wasn’t for her. one thing i especially appreciated while i was there was restraint being the last resort. any patient there is a child and no child should have to be restrained unless they are at risk and staff fully understood that and tried their best to make it less traumatic. they are also so accommodating to neurodivergent people in school and on the ward. school was fab, obvs there were ups and downs but i always felt supported in school no matter how i was feeling. yoga was my fave part omg. overall i am SO grateful to brighton and hove it’s given me the skills to recover from my eating disorder and i’ve made some amazing, supportive friends who i will be forever grateful for. again big big big thanks and love to kris, tasha and ammi you are awesome at your jobs i will forever be in debt to you and what you did for me!

I have been seeing a psychiatrist here for many years. He has been amazing and I do not think I would be where I am now without him. Based on my experience I fully recommend this place.

Can only reiterate other's negative reviews, I dread to think what gets continually carried out on those who are too vulnerable to eventually protect themselves by walking away. Happy to take money and run, not upholding basic tenets of responsibilities. Starting therapy sessions late and ending early; not listening to repeated concerns in psychiatrist sessions about medication efficacy or bothering to read notes before sessions to make sure that they don't speak in a careless or apathetic manner about serious subjects with you (e.g. in a check up, "so no suicidal...thoughts (starts casually flicking through your notes)... that's not a part of your background is it...is it?...". And when you file a formal complaint with intention to be refunded and for the practice to reflect on their mistakes, you get unprofessionally written emails from managerial types that then turn into pretending to have carried out assessments of your areas of complaints with quotes from the individuals you've complained about, simply semantically contradicting your complaint. I.e. the sessions started late, so... "If anything our sessions started early and overran". And this is enough apparently, to neutralise the complaint. If you do decide to trial their services, use tools to record everything, no effort is too much in this regard; you might need it to complain later. Get on an NHS waiting list and use tools to look after yourself until you can receive their help, or else find far cheaper online services. Don't pile your money up and burn it whilst unprofessional people who have become arrogantly complacent about their protected positions of power mistreat you. If I wanted my therapist to talk in a tangent at length about them liking Britain's Got Talent in a session that started ten minutes late and finished fifteen minutes early, instead of carrying out Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I'd give someone at the bus stop a tenner to let rip on the subject, not hundreds to this 'malpractice clinic'.

Our daughter spent 3 months here as an inpatient at the CAMHS ED Unit. This was the third specialist unit that she has been placed in and it truly stands out as an exceptionally good facility. The staff are caring, friendly and deeply committed to doing the best they can for the patients in their care. Our daughter was very ill with some very challenging behaviours, but they refused to give up and treated her with compassion and kindness as they encouraged her on the road to recovery. The staff are well-led and clearly form a great team, working well together and with us. It is the first time as parents that we have felt completely involved and supported in our daughter's inpatient treatment and this collaborative approach achieved some amazing results. We were not only listened to, but actively consulted, to achieve the best tailor-made approach for our child. Our daughter has left this unit ready to challenge her disorder and this hospital can take much of the credit for her improved state of mind. We will remember this as a very special healing place full of some very special people who we simply cannot thank enough.

This practice has no real duty of care to its patients. It does not live up to the amount they charge. £140 for half an hour but if you have any concerns or request a phone call they cant even be bothered to get back to you.

Absolute waste of money and poorly run.
