Stayed at Kaplan in Brighton for my first year of uni - loved it! Super nice kitchen and loved my room and en-suite was modern and location was ace. Staff were lovely too, anything you needed they helped out basically straight away. Would recommend to anyone looking at Brighton or Sussex uni accom options!

So, ive been living here for a couple of weeks and it just really nice, the rooms are well sized, the stuff are really helpful and kind and its really clean. 250 weekly is pretty good and giving the option to pay in instalment is great for students who are broke like me. I really recommend if its your first year of uni.

My experience at Kaplan has been quite negative from the moment I arrived. The shared kitchen was poorly managed and poorly ventilated making it very stuffy at all times. Throughout my stay, I had to deal with messy and very dirty kitchen, stealing of personal items and food, and excessive noise daily considering the accommodation is full of under 18s with no sense of peace and order. On top of this, the bins were rarely taken out and were left overflowing for weeks. Despite repeated complaints, management consistently told me there was nothing they could do, in fact when asking to switch rooms as the final solution, they offered me a “premium room” that i would need to pay extra for… I interpret this as no empathy towards their own residents. I find this lack of accountability and proactive management disappointing. Especially after being told by a staff member that she lived in Kaplan a few years prior and experienced the exact same issues, just confirms the fact that the lack of management has been a ongoing issue for years with no progress. The individual room itself was actually quite good, spacious compared to many other student accommodations, with a decent layout and comfortable size. The location is also a plus, in the center of town with convenient access to shops and transport. One of the more frustrating rules is the strict guest policy. Even if you’re over 18, you’re required personally check in and check out every single guest, even if they’re only staying for five minutes. While I understand the importance of safety and monitoring who enters the building, this policy feels overly strict for over 18s who are fully capable of responsibly managing short visits as adults. I found this kind of living environment really frustrating and would affect my day to day mood. For the price I was expecting a much better experience and management of the accommodation.

The most friendly and welcome student accommodation I’ve come across, with a variety of facilities, located right at the heart of brighton allowing it to be an easy access to almost everything in brighton. The management team are one of the most open and welcoming team I’ve met who are extremely friendly as well. The rooms are way more than satisfactory and comfortable.

Thousands of doors on the way to my room….even though there’s a short cut from cycling storage but we are not allowed to use it which is totally nonsense. If I go through the side door (access allowed) but I was told you can’t take the lift just next to the cycling storage. If you don’t want people go this way just build another gate like you good at or even close the whole cycling storage and lift then the problem solved.

Really disappointed with move in day. Walked into a dirty kitchen. Looked like the cleaners were using it as a dumping ground. Half used packages of blue roll and spray bottles. The table was unusable with boxes of cleaning supplies. And multiples of a microwave accessories were left in our kitchen. Previous students stuff was also left discarded in the kitchen such as a wipe board and half of a lava lamp. A bin was being used but had no bin liner so it was gross and smelled bad. When I told reception a man from the back tried to tell me that it had already been deep cleaned without even looking at it. They did come and throw some of the stuff away but left the cleaners dirty rags and empty kitchen rolls in the sink. For the price of the accommodation you’d expect it to be clean and usable on the first day. Drew was nice and sympathetic about it but the man from the back seemed more standoffish about how he knew the kitchen was clean because it had been checked off a list. Seems they focus more on their donut board than the quality of living.

I stayed here during August 2022. The location of this accommodation was great, only a few minutes walk from the Pier and the city centre. The wifi is free and fairly consistent. However, there were a lot of issues with this accommodation and this was apparent when I first arrived. The queue for check-in was about 20 people in front of me, and there was just one man available to check each person in. The building was extremely hot throughout, and being on the fourth floor only made things worse. There is no air conditioning and the window only opens about 10cm, so airflow in the room is restricted. I slept with a damp towel around my neck to help cool me off. I arrived in the room and it hadn't been cleaned properly. Although the bathroom and bedding were clean, there were crumbs on the floor and on the desk, and litter from the previous guests inside one of the cupboards. The listing advertises kitchen facilities, but there are not any available at all. This meant I had to buy food each day instead of preparing my own, and there was no way of having tea or coffee in the mornings. The sink in the bathroom is tiny and therefore it is impossible to fill your water bottles up with it, so I had to keep buying water each day. I know this accommodation was cheap, but I expected a higher standard than this and I am extremely disappointed.

basically I'd put 5 out of 5 if I'm rating the building and staff, however, residents r the reason behind the missing star. Honestly, I love everything about kaplan >> care + events + facilities + friendly staff + easy life away etc. For the missing star, sadly Kaplan is the only accommodation I've been to that is full of naughty teens. It's not a big problem for most of residents and still perfect for un-mature students to be fair. I believe to get a nicer student friendly environment, Kaplan needs to be more strict with unnessecrely noise, smoking area, and language. Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆.
