Beautiful grounds, super dog friendly which is what we wanted, and really friendly and helpful staff. The reception could do with being better signposted as from the car park it’s not immediately obvious. No one at reception but came across my name on a piece of paper and a key - which is great if you don’t want to interact with others and appreciate this may be a cost saving issue. Rooms were clean but super tired. Unfortunately there is a lot of the beautiful building unused and appears neglected however we appreciate the money required to bring the building up to a higher standard must be phenomenal. However, that didn’t excuse the outside bar area which we understand at this time of year isn’t used, but looked an awful mess. Left out glasses? Rubbish everywhere? Doesn’t give a great impression. Staff we met in the bar were wonderful and couldn’t be more friendly, but as a vegetarian super disappointed in a carvery and very Ltd options for myself and my vegan cousin. When you google the place, example menus were a far cry from reality and sadly misleading. Running out of vegi sausages wasn’t ideal either particularly given we ended up with a nuked (soggy microwaved) vegan wellington, and no vegi sausages for the full English. There are some beautiful walks on the doorstep which our dogs loved, on lead as requested obviously. You get what you pay for and the price reflected this. Would we stay again? Possibly. Of note, no one responded to my message on booking dot com or on the website - after 3 days I had to phone to get a response.

Nice scenery, food okay but unfortunately hotel run down and smelly. Needs major refurbishment, like new carpets, decent double glazed windows to replace the old wooden ones, a bit of paint here and there, etc etc. Not a very cozy place to stay, as it gives out an erie kinda atmosphere, but you get what you pay for I guess! Staff serving food seem pleasant enough though.

Lovely setting, hotel in poor repair with rotten windows and a strong smell of damp inside the building. No staff at check in, we had to stand outside in pouring rain and ring for access code. Room good size, tea tray excellent choice, shower good plenty of hot water, towels and bedding clean and good quality. Bed uncomfortable, poor mattress. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food.

We booked for the Sunday Carvery at 1:30. Obviously oversubscribed and didn't get sat until 2:00 HOWEVER, the team that were working smashed it. I doubt if Luke was over 23 and the four girls (that I saw) working with him not even that (My apologies to all concerned if I have got that wrong). The team just 'had it', professional, calming, caring and efficient. Their customer service was first class and the food was great so well done to the kitchen team too.

Came here for a Father’s Day carvery and we were really impressed! The food was absolutely delicious, really great & affordable prices (only Β£4.95 for a dessert!), and wonderful staff who were extremely friendly and attentive. The interior is dated and could do with a freshen up but this didn’t impact our experience. We were given a table in a bay window with a lovely view which was really lovely. We will definitely be returning!

I enjoyed the surrounding, however, I am sorry but I can't rate the food as I could have made better I am an engineer and not a chef. The bar staff were OK, however, the manager gave the the impression that he didn't want to have us all there, prices were also quite high. Generally it seemed that they were struggling to cope with us.

Everything was excellent for our stay here. The food is really first class. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed here after going to the Thursford Christmas show so we will definitely be back next year. Highly recommended.

Went there for a Sunday Carvery. Good service, although a drinks order did not arrive, reordered and told it was coming, however the bar was quite and nothing serving, did come quick once reordered though. The place was nice if not a little tired.
