GCSE evening classes. 1 teacher had zero clue how to work an online classroom on a course that is supposed to be partially online. The same teacher still had no clue the following year! Same teacher would not turn up without notification, we had to drive 30mins to the college. Child couldn’t log in to online classroom several times. 1st time ‘technical issues’, another time our payment was taken but not linked to my child’s enrolment. Another time, ‘account not verified’ possibly because it was the home pc rather than the laptop at college. This is how online classrooms work, at home! Tech department says - ‘happens all the time’. Another teacher was annoyed at every teen who asked a question. I think most of the evening teachers are the bottom of the barrel. Either poorly qualified or don’t want to be there. Science teacher was great at least. During exams, a co-ordinator was appointed to direct students to the correct room by checking against their name. My disabled child was directed to the wrong room, upstairs, wrongly misdirected again by a teacher. We ended up walking around for 20mins. This isn’t even all the problems. The college is a logistical shambles, despite a few nice people there. I gritted my teeth through my kids first year but this year I’m fed up. Watching my kid stressed out due to the college’s deficiencies is frustrating. Edit: the icing on the cake, my son’s GCSE certificate didn’t have his full first name printed but rather his shortened form!

Some lecturer's are extremely rude and insulting to their pupils consequently being detrimental to their learning and disengaging them from their original urge to learn and better themselves. Staff are extremely friendly on open days, often selling their courses with false advertisement and parts you might be able to do on the third year only. Help for pupils with disabilities is poor or ignored entirely. Self worth and confidence for some is crushed after the experience. Pick wisely your course and find out from past and current pupils what they think about the work load and lecturers themselves before deciding if coleg sir gar is right for you.
