Firstly start by stating that I’ve used Chetwode motors since the age of 17, when I passed my test back in 2007. Recommended from my father who used them for his cars, and my mums cars too. So for myself personally almost 19 years I’ve been coming back. All 5 of the cars I’ve owned have had all car related work done there. Services, mot’s, tyres etc. and never any problems. They’ve always worked with me to get the car in and out same day, for the school run pick up for the wife at 3pm. That is until my latest mot and service, where my wife came to collect the car as normal, and the windscreen was cracked. She immediately went in and questioned it and was told it was apparently already there, which it wasn’t. This car is my only vehicle in our household, so any work that needs doing, gets done simple as that. If it was already that cracked I would have already sorted it out and not risked the potential dangers of having a windscreen smash whilst driving, especially with my children in the car. I certainly wouldn’t take my car in for a mot with it cracked, and risk the car failing the mot, and being left without a car. Even more so when it would be covered under my insurance on my policy for windscreen cover, it makes no sense. It’s even more obvious it happened at Chetwode when it passed it’s mot an hour after being dropped off, with no advisories, or any comments or notes what so ever about it being cracked. That size of a crack in the windscreen, and it didn’t even get noted on the test, seems odd doesn’t it? That’s because at this point I believe it wasn’t cracked. I believe it was cracked after the mot, whilst having its service. There is an impact point at the base of the windscreen, which is below the bonnet line so not caused by stone chip or debris. It’s only possible with the bonnet up, due to how low my windscreen starts. There is also a small patch of damaged metal under the edge of the bonnet right inline with the impact point on the windscreen, how has that been done in normal driving conditions? It hasn’t simple as that. I believe tools, or new parts or both, have been put on the tray at the base of the windscreen whilst having its service, and that’s caused the damage. Maybe the tools were put down too hard, or the bonnet closed with something still in the tray, that would also explain the damage to underside of bonnet. Conveniently the crack was then noted on the service report done after the mot. Either all staff are keeping it quiet, or the technician doing the service isn’t forthcoming to the owner/boss about something that’s happened whilst he was under my bonnet carrying out the service. I’m 100% adamant it was not there when the car was dropped off, and would love to see the cctv from the workshop if they have any. Unfortunately it’s my word against theirs, and the police can’t act as it’s a civil matter and not a criminal matter. I’ve had a car glass installer look at it and he reckons it’s had an impact at the base of the windscreen, and was amazed when I told him it passed the mot apparently like that and he couldn’t believe it would pass, or pass without being noted. If they had been upfront with it happening, I would have respected that and worked something out with them as these things can happen. But for someone to lie and cover it up is disgusting behaviour. I will not be returning again unfortunately, which is quite a sad outcome for all the years I’ve been going there. But one thing I won’t stand is dishonesty, and how my wife was questioned and confronted when she mentioned the damage was not on. Someone there knows how it’s happened, and it’s cost you my future business and probably my children’s business in the future too.

Car went in for mot and service came back with a cracked windscreen that was not there before as there is no way I would miss it. Apparently was there before it went in pretty sure I would have seen it as one crack goes half way up the windscreen.

Been going to Chetwode with the family fleet for over twenty years, which speaks volumes. Kevin and his staff have always been friendly , helpful and look after our cars with thoroughness and integrity , sorting what needs sorting but leaving jobs that do not. When I started going to Chetwode I worked just round the corner, I now drive past numerous garages to get there and will be a loyal customer as long as they remain in business.

I would recommend Chetwode Motors to all. They are absolutely fantastic and have been working with my car for the past 2-3 years. I'm completely useless when it comes to cars, but they are always so friendly and helpful and charge me reasonable rates.

I am a woman on my own and I am sure Chetwood motors could have made a lot more money out of me. They are good honest hard-working people who are trustworthy. A rare thing these days. Thank you and wishing you another prosperous and healthy year. Mrs. Lowe.
