I’ve sadly lost faith in Afon Vets after two very upsetting experiences with my cat, a couple of years apart. The first time she went in, she was lethargic but stable. When we collected her, she was far worse — completely limp and unresponsive. We hadn’t been warned she might be in that state, so it was a huge shock when we took her out of the carrier. We genuinely thought she was going to die. The second time, a couple of years later, she needed surgery to remove a furball. There were complications, and sadly she didn’t survive. Communication throughout was poor — we were told the surgery would cost £1,000–£1,300, but the bill suddenly increased to £1,700 without any consultation, and ended up being over £1,900. While we would have paid anything to save her, it felt very lacking in transparency and compassion. Overall, both experiences left us feeling extremely let down.

This is the only vets I’ll take my dog too. They are fantastic and have helped my dog many times and they are always helpful and friendly. Especially after his operations he’s had to have

Excellent, they were great with our last Golden Retriever Evie and now equally so with our new Golden Retriever Mabel. The Vets, Nurses and reception staff are so caring. Would highly recommend.

Myself and my daughter had to take our beloved Bonnie Star early hours of Tuesday morning to neath. Unfortunately she was so poorly she could not be saved. The vet on call Alice and the nurse who accompanied her were just out of this world. They treated bonnie with love, care and empathy and I cannot thank them enough. Our hearts are aching and in pain but I know that she is at peace and we will love her forever
