We went to the restaurant for a cup of tea and a cake this afternoon and there were so many negatives compared to just one positive. A hugely disappointing experience. Tables not cleared but the presence of a stacked tray trolley suggests the expectation that you are supposed to clear your own table when finished. If that is the case a simple notice on each table would be useful. If self-clearing is not expected then they need more staff to ensure tables are cleared of crockery and cutlery. The cleanliness of teacups, saucers, and plates is poor. Nearly all teacups and teapots are stained and do not look good. Cakes are left uncovered on the counter where people file past waiting to order. In a season where there has been significant increases in cases of flu, this cannot be hygienic. The aforementioned tray trolley was so full that when one lady tried to clear a table so she could use it, one tray, with the crockery, fell to the floor. Even though one of the staff cleared up the mess on the floor, not one of the four staff in the area bothered taking the overloaded tray trolley to the kitchen for clearing and washing, despite walking past it numerous times! The one positive, the tea was good. We won't be returning.

This review is specifically of the restaurant/cafe, not the store itself. The restaurant is always so busy and there are not enough staff. There is always a queue to be seated (15 mins on our last visit), and dirty tables. The staff do not really show any interest in improving efficiency or at least attending the queue and apologising for the wait. However once seated the service is not too bad and food generally good.

Posting on behalf of my wife: This is sadly a public review as I’ve tried to speak to Dobbies customer services to absolutely no avail. I went to the Dobbies terrarium workshop a few weeks ago with a friend and despite following all of their care advice everything in the terrarium is dead. I believe that this is due to some small ornamental toadstools which they gave us to put inside not being suitable for the moist conditions and going mouldy. Even though I removed these everything else has still suffered. Sadly no recompense from the company at all as they say I have to take it back to the store even though it’s an hour from where I live (and somewhere I met a friend halfway between our two towns). I think it’s really awful customer service and I won’t be booking any of their “experiences” again.

Dobbies Garden Centre is absolutely brilliant! The store was so tidy and well-organised, a pleasure to shop in. The main attraction was the Christmas display, which was truly vast and looked absolutely magnificent. They have clearly gone all out this year. If you're looking for festive inspiration, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Really love the store, especially for thoughtfully designed kids soft play which is isolated and very secure (yes, you have to book quite in advance, but it is clean, maintained and had good food options which extremely rare in soft plays, even has afternoon tea!) staff very polite and professional ! Loved it

What a fabulous Christmas Afternoon Tea I had with my 9 friends this afternoon. We were welcomed and were asked whether we wanted tea or coffee. After the hot drinks came out, our Christmas Afternoon Tea arrived. Lovely fresh sandwiches, scones and cakes. We were asked if we wanted anymore hot drinks. The staff that served us also bought out some boxes for those who wanted to take home what they hadn’t eaten. Such a great deal and such an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you Dobbies Milton Keynes

Excellent and extremely good value for money. Took my dad there as a birthday treat. I selecred the traditional afternoon tea. Sandwiches were freshly made, scones tasty, and the selection of small cakes was just enough. All washed down with 2 pots of tea. We were made to feel welcome and wasn't rushed either. Will definitely be booking to return again soon.
