MISLEAD! READ BEFORE JOINING. My partner referred me in August 2025 on the understanding she’d get a free month (joint bank account so I know). Nothing received. Nobody to talk to. No direct number to call Riverside gym. Riverside staff said it would be deducted on third month - still nothing received. I tried customer service number and I was on hold for over an hour and moved 2 places (19 down to 17). I then pressed to go through to sales as a new joiner (just to speak to somebody) and I was immediately put through… they couldn’t help. They put me through to customer service and back to position 20… I enjoy the gym but do not join if you think you are getting an offer and do not expect customer service.
Fantastic gym! Great atmosphere! Great big space! Great range of machines and insane number of classes which you are able to book! Staff are friendly and always keen to help make your visit great! Having been a member of two other different gym chains, Virgin is by far the best! Well worth the extra pennies :-)
This gym is overcrowded, overpriced (£70+ per month), and extremely poorly managed. The facility is consistently oversubscribed, with broken changing room doors, only three private cubicles, and even leaking ceilings over gym equipment that were never addressed. Signs all over ‘I’m taking a rest’ and you are unable to eat any snack or food from yourself in the cafe seating area that you pay for in your membership as a facility ‘seats only for cafe customers’. However, staff sit on their computers, eat and chat in this area constantly. Staff professionalism is non-existent. The gym is run largely by untrained receptionists and dismissive managers who claim they have “no power” to resolve issues. My experience with a personal trainer was unacceptable: sessions were double-booked, one was conducted while the trainer was clearly hungover, and then she announced she could no longer work the agreed day. She even falsely claimed I had already used all my sessions when I had not, clearly trying to con me out of money. Despite this, the club refused to cancel my PT contract before it began, repeatedly passing me between reception and management. Attempts to resolve the matter through reception, the PT manager, and even the club manager were met with misinformation, delays, and refusal to act. It took months of stress, multiple complaints, and escalation before my membership was finally cancelled. Even in cases of financial difficulty or significant change of circumstances, Virgin Active will not allow cancellation despite proof, leaving members trapped. This is not a premium gym but a disorganized, unprofessional service that charges luxury prices. I strongly advise avoiding Virgin Active Riverside Northampton.
I have to say, Virgin Gym is hands down the best gym I've ever been a member of. Despite the distance from my home and the higher membership fee, it is worth every single penny and every minute of my day. The experience is truly unmatched, and I can't recommend it enough.My passion at the gym is the wide variety of classes, particularly the yoga offerings. Every single yoga instructor brings something unique to the mat, making each class a fresh and rewarding experience. The convenience of having evening classes after work is a huge plus for me. I also love the Pilates classes, and on days when I'm looking for a different kind of workout, I'll hop on the treadmills for a good hike.When I need to unwind, the relaxation facilities are perfect. The spacious jacuzzi and sauna are my go-to for a relaxing soak or steam. The gym itself is incredibly spacious, with dedicated studios that are free for personal use after classes. I often use the yoga studio for my own stretching routines. The changing rooms are another highlight—they're large, well-equipped with showers and lockers, and the toilets are always clean and accessible on both floors.What truly makes this gym special, though, is the community and the little extras. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. There’s a fantastic waiting area with comfortable sofa chairs, and the new cafe shop offers a great selection of healthy treats. Most impressively, the Virgin Gym app rewards you for coming in and hitting your goals, which is a fantastic motivator. The weekly treats are a great way to stay on track.In short, there are so many wonderful things about this gym that it's hard to list them all. The quality of the facilities, the variety of classes, the welcoming staff, and the rewarding app all contribute to an amazing experience. This isn't just a gym; it's a place where I truly feel I get my money's worth.
It's totally worth the money. Big Gim, very big swimming pool, kids swimming pool, jacuzzi, 3 sauna. Lots of showers and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids area, and even a cafe area where you can enjoy snacks.
This is a superb gym and leisure center. I have been using this gym for decades and absolutely love it. The staff and members are all friendly and everything works as it should. Sometimes things are out of order but you have to remember there are literally hundreds if not thousands of people coming in and out. In my opinion, in the weights machine section the only thing lacking is a dedicated calf machine. This is over 20 years overdue.
Very good facilities, for training purposes and relax, I like most jacuzzi and saunas, jacuzzi need improvement, renewal for water flow, 2 out of 6 is all right other is not effective, need more beds for resting aswell, gym is to small for such many people around, equipment is new and good, but not enough space, for the membership price 59.99£ should be open 24/h not just 6-22, weekends 6-20. Not worthy to pay the money.
I freeze my PT due to health issues and when 3 months past I told my PT that I m not able to start just yet, however they took my money for other two months until I have noticed. I have all the conversations , I have asked for my money back but nothing have happened. They took my money without my consent and now I can’t take it back and we are talking about hundreds of pounds. Disgusting!!!!
Rang to freeze my account receptionist confirmed what it's freezed for 3 months but they still kept collecting the dd for full amount. Nothing been done called to manager she don't know what she's doing said her colleague on holiday...also lost my swimsuit and hair care they admitted what they put it to the bin. Had enough looking for cancellation
