at first i enjoyed my stay in the maple ward after giving birth however, i wouldn’t recommend telling them that you struggle with mental health as they will call social services on you. i was stressed at the start as i am a new mum and had no experience with babies. i also had a very long labour which resulted in an emergency c-section so i struggled for the first few days and being placed in a small hot room didnt help. i suffer with social anxiety and i am on medication so they did an assessment on me where i told them i have loads of support from my boyfriend, the babies dads family & my own but they said to social services that i have “no support”, im “unstable” and that i clearly have “psychosis” they also failed to mention that i had a c-section and was in absolute agony from it. i ended up staying for 6 days as they refused to let me go. i told them over and over i can’t deal with being in a small hot room for almost a week and ill feel happier and more confident at home but it felt like they never listened and my issues were ignored or over exaggerated to make me look worse. in the end i self discharged as i couldn’t take being there anymore and felt like i had less support being in there than home. some of the midwives were helpful and were lovely but overall the mental health team there stressed me out more than anything.

Absolutely love all of them! Great doctors and midwives, nurses, cleaners and all staff! They all deserve recognition! We spent a few days, and my wife had rough labour. Everyone employed there empathic, helpful, and full of care. On top of it wife enjoyed provided meals, they were sufficient and healthy. Thank you!

We had our first beautiful girl via planned c section here after she was found to be breach footling at 35 weeks! This was the farthest route from our original water birth plan possible and I was very nervous but the whole team were spectacular - hugely comforting and welcoming of our gentle c section birth plan. Thank you all so much xx

Amazing care for me and my wife recently for the birth of our first child. Every midwife, carer, student mid wife could not of been better. We had a midwife with us every minute of the 30 hour labour and eventually ended up with a caesarean and every member of staff was amazing and care couldn’t have been better. Yes it’s the nhs it’s underfunded and under-appreciated but couldn’t fault our experience.
