We recently had major building work done on our house, so we needed to check into a hotel for a few days. My wife - who is far too boujee to even look at a Travelodge - decided we should stay at Moore Place in Aspley Guise. She expected a little luxury, maybe even “the life of Riley.” Instead, we got… Riley’s structurally questionable garden shed. The room we were given (number 86, for the detectives among you) appeared to have been decorated by someone who lost a bet in 1987. The carpet was a scruffy, angry red… the walls a soothing “Shrek Green”… and the overall vibe was Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen having a nervous breakdown. The room smelled both unclean and mysterious, like something had died, revived itself, and then decided to die again under the bed. There were stains on the bedding and furniture - so many, in fact, that we started giving them names. There were no table lamps at all, meaning a midnight toilet break illuminated the entire room like Oasis headlining Wembley. I’m not saying the lighting was harsh, but I could feel my retinas negotiating their exit package. Random bits of equipment were strewn around the room as though we’d stumbled into a car boot sale curated by someone who hates people. And for reasons unknown, the room included three completely unnecessary, strategically inconvenient staircases that required all of my obstacle-course training and a small prayer to navigate without injury. But the pièce de résistance? Our key cards stopped working six times during a three-night stay. That’s twice a day, for those keeping score. Each time required a soggy trek across the car park to reception, where I was looked at like a man from Crimewatch trying to bluff his way into a stranger’s room. By day three I was considering carrying my passport, utility bills, and maybe a character reference. Overall, it was an outstandingly unpleasant stay, and we won’t be returning in this lifetime or the next. I even heard my wife mutter, “I’d rather stay with my mother-in-law than spend another night in this hell-hole,” which really says it all. Breakfast was nice though.

A lovely building which could be awesome but sadly room 41 which is within the main building is in massive need of a total refurbishment. I don't know what other rooms are like. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work, the bathroom door was blown on both sides, heated towel rail didn't work, Needed a good cleaning and so very, very tired and desperate for some TLC. Dried urine on toilet seat and we didn't fancy using the shower over the bath. Lots of issues that have had bodged remedial work. The bedroom info folder was so out of date and not relevant as it didn't have a recycling bag and there wasn't a room service menu enclosed as mentioned in it to order by dialling from the non existent phone in the room. The mattress was the most uncomfortable we have ever slept on and only two TV channels available as the remainder show " no signal" errors. Public areas needed a thorough cleaning, particularly at upper level. Thankfully we only used it as a base for the two nights. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was very good. Massively overpriced.

Return visit! We stayed here 20 years ago, the village of Aspley Guise if beautiful, the hotel hasn't changed on all those years, the room had a small balcony so it was nice to get some air. Overall I feel the rooms are a bit tired and could do with a refresh. We only had breakfast once which was very good. Room rate is very reasonable and the garden area is very nice to sit and have a drink in. Overlay very pleasant stay but £5 per night to park is not great ! Could have parked outside of someone house, ( but that's inconsiderate to residents) but some would to avoid the parking charge !

Booked last minute and messaged that we had a dog with us but in arriving told there were no rooms available to accommodate dogs. Showed them the message and reply and the lady on reception called her manager and we got a room sorted. Not a problem. Rooms are very tired and don't think they've been updated in many many years and the bed was absolutely rock hard (and I like a hard bed). Don't bother paying for breakfast it really isn't worth it. We ordered the eggs benedict but it initially came out with hard poached eggs on cold muffins with the worse tasting Hollandaise sauce I've ever had, bacon wad completely missing. Once we said the plates were taken away and returned with a piece of bacon on top of each. Who ever is your morning cook ( because they're definitely not a chef) maybe explain to them the art of food presentation because it was obvious they couldn't give a toss. It was absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately I had a room booked for August but have now decided to stay elsewhere. Very disappointed as this used to be a lovely hotel.

A lovely hotel in the middle of a stunning village, with a good pub to boot. Had a stunning room, staff were lovely, as was the breakfast, but the building is looking a little tired and could do with a tidying up in the public areas. But I would recommend staying here as it is great value for money.

Booked an accessible room but was given a room upstairs. Meaning I had to leave my wheelchair in the car and just use my walking stick. There was no lift so I found navigating the stairs difficult. Bedroom door and window didn't lock. Breakfast buffet was in a separate room from the seating so I had to walk a lit carrying my plate and using my walking stick, making it difficult to serve myself as I was there alone. Pillows were so uncomfortable. Redeeming factors: room was clean, bed was okay, breakfast was good and good location.

Staff are friendly… room I was vile. I was tucked away in some form of extension to the main house, the carpet was disgusting, bits of the building and room had been bodged with repairs and unfinished. Contractors were upgrading the fire alarm (which is fine) but done it in the late evening when guest had finished work and it kept deathening me as it went off sporadicly. The heating didn’t work and the heating controls were 20+ years old, the blanket provided was wafer thin (a summer blanket) with no other provided or stored. The building itself was some form of old cottage and you could hear EVERYTHING from the adjoining rooms due to the old wood creaking and the noisy old wooden stairs going to the other floor passing through my room. I’m gobsmacked it has 4 stars on here! Safe to say I will NEVER be staying here again.

Stayed for just 1 night after a visit to Bletchley Park and a visit to some friends for a 60th. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fantastic. Even went so far as to have 3 courses! The young lady working in the restaurant was so lovely and made time to chat with everyone. Sure she must have worked through the night as she was there for breakfast too, and still smiling! Great choice of breakfast I really enjoyed my continental option. We had a cottage room which was large and comfortable although maybe a little dated. After a busy few day we had an early night and slept extremely well. Would definitely visit again.
