We visited during wintertime, so it was only open on Sundays. There are toilet facilities here, an information centre and the parking is free for National Trust members. It was nice to learn about the history of these buildings, their purpose and how little number of them survived. It is worth a visit.
Nice drive out to Horsey Windpump which is going extensive restoration to save it for future generations. Very knowledgeable and fri ndly volunteers with lots of information. Fantastic views from the top of the pump. Plenty of parking, clean toilets, nice little coffee kiosk, a nice one all along the staithe to the mere and a gift shop.
What looks like just a Windmill is in fact a Windpump that used to drain excess water from the land. Now it is a thin waterway that opens out into Horsey mere. Nice little cafe with outside seating and a walk up to the top of the Windpump if you wish.
Beautiful area with amazing setting and diverse wildlife. Interesting history and guides who really know about the history. All the staff were very chatty, welcoming and obviously knew their stuff. It was fantastic to see that the site has sensory provision and we were informed that there will be quiet visit times for neurodivergent to access in the near future. Fantastic.
Lovely day out, good to see the renovation and the history of the wind pump. The birds were very accustomed to having their photos taken! Nice walk round the estate stopped at the pub for a drink then back to the car, just don't let your dog go in the ditches!
We got there after the cafe was closed but we managed to catch a glimpse of the special beauty of this place. The peaceful lookout over the broads was a great place for bird watchers and photographers alike. Our visit was short and sweet and would like to come back in the future to explore.
A very nice National Trust site, the Windpump is lovely but be warned the steps are quite steep so be careful. You cant go to the very top at present but the views from the levels that are open are worth it. There are some nice walks in the surrounding grounds with Bees and Dragonflies aplenty to compliment the surroundings Of Horsey Mere Lake. I shouldn't forget the cafe with a nice selection of snacks and ice cream.
Not much going on here but quite scenic and a little beauty, I like the sound of the wildlife boat trip, some lovely plants and wildlife around and there were pretty places to sit. Coffee shop too but was busy so we didn't bother, can also go into the windmill for an extra cost.
We walked to the mill from Waxham beach, initially along the coastal path and then through the fields by footpath, passing Horsey church. Finally the mill emerged, seeming to float on a sea of green reeds. Despite a rising wind, a beautiful blue, cloud dappled sky provided the backdrop to our visit to this historical setting. The view of the Broads and the boats, from the top of the mill, was accompanied by the sky diving swallows as they nested in the cap of the mill. We had chicken salad sandwiches from the Trust cafe that were great too!...
I came here to take pictures of the mills and the wildlife. You can take a nice walk up to Brograve mill which took me about an hour and half to get there and back . (There's a map in the car park, of the routes) Scenery is beautiful, was a peaceful walk. You have to pay for parking, I paid £3 for 2 hours. Ticket machine is cash only or there is a website you can pay on your phone .
