Without doubt the tastiest Chinese we have ever had. Real serendipity as we were looking for another restaurant and saw this one by chance. Friendly staff and really tasty food.
one of the worse Chinese I ever eat . king po chicken was reheated on the fryer or fried from frozen the breading was rubbery and the meat was tough. plain rice was also over cooked even if you have pay extra . green Thai curry little be better but chicken breast cut on pieces not on whole pieces but fresh. overall not recommended for tourist who drive 4 hours read Google reviews and thinking about good food. sometime better pay more and go to proper Chinese restaurant ..very disappointed
Ordered over the phone, collected in 10/15 minutes. Excellent food. All nice and hot and very flavoursome.
I have been trying different Chinese around Reading, and right now, this is the best one I found. The rice is very tasty, is not dry like others, and the meat it comes with it is more quality than others. The only thing I will say is the portions. For example, when just ordering pork, you pay a lot but you get very small pork and lots of vegetables... pls put something else, is very nice, but too expensive for the little portion.
Visited last week first time, food magnificent, price very good. Fresh ingredients clearly, lovely pork, chicken, prawns. House fried special rice brilliant. Had 2nd meal yesterday, as good as last weeks, pork with noodles, best takeaway in this area by far. I will visit again next week!!

I love this place so much. One of the best Chinese places generally and best I’ve seen for vegetarian food. You know it’s good because you don’t get overly thirsty afterwards. I love the black bean and tofu. Also the salt and pepper chips with chilli and the spring rolls with that sauce. YUM.
Golden Chef has the highest Google rating of all Chinese takeaways in Reading I saw, so I had high expectations for it. It doesn't do delivery, but its prices are generally the cheapest to compensate for that. There is decent parking outside or at the Co-op nearby. It's become our favourite local takeaway despite having to drive there because the food quality is great and its prices are the cheapest I've found. Their salt and pepper dishes are fantastic, and we love their fruity sweet and sour HK style dishes. You get free prawn crackers for orders over £15 too!
