I have many happy memories of the cattle market cafe from the days of horse sales, carriage sales and the fabulous household /antique sales which we attended regularly. The cafe was an endless supply of egg and bacon rolls, luscious and dripping, chips with tomato sauce and real belt busting breakfasts . Dinners were amazing , like great school dinners on steroids! Sadly I haven’t been in a while but am just glad to see that it is hanging on in there in these troubled times and surviving in the face of indescriminate ‘redevelopment’ of Readings past. Good luck, and long may it thrive

This was in reading chronical and I agree, just my opinion for anyone that is offended, but the proof is there in black and white. Cattle Market Cafe The cafe on Great Knollys Street also scored a 0, in an inspection last January. Inspectors said there was ‘bad’ food hygiene and safety, ‘poor’ structural compliance, and ‘little’ confidence in management

Absolutely shocking customer services went in to order cheese burger and a red bull wich was £7.00 a bit shocking then sat waiting for 5 minutes before being told no buns for the burger so opted for a pain and simply ham and cheese baguette then to wait around 15 to 20 minutes for a burnt roll a meat that barely looked like ham and to top it off there was hairs inside the roll taken pictures before returning the food to the owner in fairness he was extremely embarrassed about the situation but given he told me he was struggling for week time trade i can really see why extremely unwelcoming kitchen staff feels like when you go in there its a Burden for them to cook if you dont want to deal with the public then find a different job but unfortunately i will be sending those pictures of the hairs and sate of food to the reading food and hygiene standards agency

Went there today. It’s just been recently taken over. Had a nice chat with the friendly owner. Food was good, too much for me to eat. Shall be returning again at next opportunity

NEW OWNERSHIP! Expensive, £7.50 for a breakfast on a small plate. Sausages were black, nobody in there on a saturday morning at 10am. Bacon was stringy. £1.30 for a multipack can of coke... and £1.30 extra for a cup of tea. Expensive and quality wasn't good at all. Would not recommend at all.

Not being funny but I’ve been here twice at 6am & it’s been closed, if it says business hours are from 6am - 2pm then it should be open to the public at those hours. False advertisement and completely out of order wasting people’s time got more chance of farming a pig for 5 years & cooking it myself than getting here. BANG OUT OF ORDER.
