I went for the D&D Halloween event, and had such a great time. The staff and owner are super polite and respectful, and are really amazing at making you feel welcome. The place is a nice size and it created the atmosphere for playing. They also put great effort into the specials menu, and when I asked if they could make the milkshake plant based, they said they could, and it was one of, if not the best vegan milkshake I've ever had. You absolutely have to check this place out!

We visited on Sunday to go through the stores extensive range of loose single TCG cards for Pokemon. The store is always tidy and the staff are very polite and welcoming. We stayed in store for a couple of hours and had coffee. The store is popular with the gaming community as they sell a wide range of gaming and card based items. The store has tables set up for you to play the large array of games they have in store for free and for you to join with friends to play card games and Role Playing Games. They serve food also and the prices are very reasonable and the food looked great. It's a great place to meet friends and like minded people.

A bit confusing if you are not a card-gamer, while there does seem to be the "option" to play board games it doesnt seem to be encouraged as such, and our intention was to scope it out to see if we could go in to play some of the games we enjoy at 2 players with a larger player count. Not sure if it was just us but it almost felt rude to use a table to setup something like Brass: Birmingham/Cubitos/Survive:EFA etc. in-case someone came in who wanted to play Pokemon/YuGiOh etc. we would kinda feel "in the way." I understand they now do a 2 hour session on a Sunday morning for board games, but if you take into account setup and teardown time, plus teaching new players how to play for the majority of games, you realistically only have around an hour and a half to play, which for most games at 4+ players simply is not enough time. With the exception of the Sunday morning slot and Saturday morning Kids club (which incidentally, is also card based (Pokemon) the store really is only for D&D players, and TCG/CCG enthusiasts. A shame really, but I understand if thats what gets people in, thats what they have to do to break even or make a profit. I obviously cant give the store a bad rating as this is my subjective opinion, but if they could find a way to open it up to a broader audience, who do not necessarily want to play TCGs that would be great. I also understand that the food and drink, while pricey and poorly presented, is actually really nice, so I guess thats good too (just dont get grease on the cards!) :)

Thank you so much to the staff of Geek Retreat Burton upon Trent for hosting an evening of Dungeons and Dragons for beginners. We had a great night. The staff are so friendly and helpful making sure everyone felt welcome. A special mention for Kirsten (check my spelling and apologies if I got this wrong). She tended to our every need all evening long keeping us fed and watered. What a truly wonderful facility, I wish you long success in Burton.
